Did you see the players that were trotted out in year one and two. Im not giving a pass on the coaches. The play calling at times have been suspect. But you are never going to call a perfect game. We had a MAC level roster when butch came. Last year the roster was turned over but I thought it was depth that killed us. We sprinted out to lead every game but couldn't stay with it. Now this year is almost that same team. We should be blowing people out, but we have had to dig out of a hole every game. When we turn it on its over. I believe they saw the press clippings and got caught up in their own hype.

MAC level is an overstatement. Did we adjust to our roster? How different does the scheme look from Worley to Dobbs? Just more running.

Same excuses for last guy.

Oh I absolutely agree with paying that much for the right coach. But to pay 10 million on top of that for your current coach to go away? That's not going to happen at UT.
Perhaps instead if shelling out 100+ million on new stadium renovations, our athletic department might pay for an elite head coach. Tennessee has played piss poor all season. They nearly lost to freaking Ohio. This team is regressing right before our eyes. The 5-3 record could easily be 3-5. Butch has made horrible coaching hires. He has to take responsibility for "bringing in his most trusted buddies" for a staff. That isn't how you build a top 10 program. He successfully sold the team in recruiting. But he doesn't have the staff to coach them. That falls on him.

If he doesn't fire Debord and make some huge changes fast, Tennessee is a laughing stock if they do not fire him. They have settled for mediocrity, period.

JG is the future.

No doubt.

Hopefully one of QD and JG are. The passing and play of Dobbs of late is troublesome. He is the engine and his play has started to hurt. He has some of his moments where he shouldn't come off the field and others where he should hand out Gatorade

Exactly. We have billions to invest in facilities but not 15-18 million to invest in a coach to actually bring strong revenue and championships here? The Haslams have literally nothing better to do with their money. They'll never spend their billions of dollars before their lifetime is over.

Titans fans will understand this...

I think Butch is a Ken Whisenhunt / Ron Zook hybrid.

He recruited for his scheme. That takes a few years. You cant adjust when none of the players you have is who you want and then change when you do. As the players got better did we not win more? I don't agree with the scheme because it is way too complex especially for lineman but if executed correctly with everyone working it's hard to stop.

Keep making excuses and over analyzing things year after year. Our head coach isn't very good at coaching football. He hasn't ever been very good. Sometimes it's not that complicated. But yep, keep analyzing our practices and schemes.

Good coaches go out and make a difference by year 4 (!!!) when they have talent. Go look at the top 10. Problem is, good coaches cost real money and require a real commitment, and we usually don't offer that.

Wake me when we hire a real football coach. I'm mad I convinced myself this wasn't a duck after he was hired despite listening to him quack for 4 years now.

49th richest family in America. They're not quite Phil Knight level, but they're not too far off from it either.

One of the worst rosters in my lifetime watching UT. I do agree that running that offense with Worley was a head scratcher.

Wow, what a mess this situation has become dating back to last year with Hurd.

Crowder, North among other players who have left the program and how CBJ has not been able to maximize his players potential.

We are now seeing that with Dobbs, AK, Kelly, JJ, and Byrd. Get them the damn ball.

Up until this year, we had shown steady improvement but this year we have regressed over the past few weeks. First two losses I understand due to injuries, the loss to USC is inexcusable.

I still believe in CBJ but he is stubborn as hell and it's hurting his program and players, whether it is playing players at specific positions, loyalty to his assistants, and in game coaching.

Hopefully this past 3 week stretch will help him learn and make the changes necessary to win out this year and right the ship.

two biggest issues for me that I think are going on.

Offensively we have an identity crisis between what we should be, what we want to be and what the public/recruit want to see. It's clear in the play calling being all over the place trying show balance instead of pounding people like we did late last year.

Defensively, you have a DC having to teach coaches and players a scheme instead of allowing him to bring in some guys that made it simply teaching players a scheme. I would have preferred to have seen Shoop bring at least one guy with him; preferably two.

Hard to stop?

I don't think they fully trust Dobbs throwing. When they are down and have no other choice he makes some good throws but most of the time he throws too many bad passes has awful decision making and doesn't know when to throw it away if it's not there.

Florida loses to Arkansas and LSU. We lose to vandy by 1 point. Florida goes to Atl. 😂

Like many of you have stated, I also was one of those that supported Dooley longer than I should have. In retrospect, even though I maintained my support, it was easy to see that he wasn't the long-term solution even though I convinced myself that he might work it out.

That's what leads me to this: 10/29/16. Mark it down. That's the day we found out, with a fairly strong degree of certainty, that Butch Jones will not have championship-level success as the coach of Tennessee. We might win out. Florida might drop two more. We may go get our brains smashed again by Bama in Atlanta. Butch might make some staff replacements. None of it will ultimately matter. My only hope now is that the roster doesn't sink to the level of Dooley-esque, and that the next coach has some talent to work with.
