I feel like everybody will be happy and take the "the cancer on the team is gone all is right with the world now" stance and be happy with winning out over these awful teams.

We still haven't even played played a game to our full capability yet and we're 8 games in. This team is poorly coached from top to bottom & we shouldn't accept it.

The Hurd situation is sad really. He was beginning to feel the wear and tear. He has carried an awful lot of the load. I am not sure he had much more to give. Never saw him let up until he took himself out for the 4th down try. I think it was against Florida. Time out was called and he made it. For whatever reason he had begun to doubt.

Let me just ask this: if we go 9-3, would you fire Butch Jones?

He probably sees it as the pinnacle of Butch's tenure.

This is probably one of the most frustrating things. As the second half proves when the players are dialed in and actually execute and all 11 do their job we are almost unstoppable. But every week almost every series a lineman gets blown up, Dobbs throws a pass to our underground wr, penalty, or drop pass we are our own worst enemy.

Butch should've handled Hurd when any issues flared up. Saban and Meyer don't appease players. Either you are all in or you can hit the road.

Meyer doesn't appease players? Have you forgotten the dumpster Florida was when he left? Players not happy with how Harvin didn't have to do anything he didn't want to do. The TE that is now in prison for murder, Meyer got him out of trouble when he decked some bouncer at a local club.

Saban maybe. Florida was not in great shape when Meyer left for supposedly health reasons and wanting to spend more time with family. That lasted until OSU came calling..

What do you suggest we do?

Yeah, McElwain is clearly taking Florida to new heights as a program

They are top 10 and will win the East two years in a row.

He's no Meyer, but I don't think he's particularly scared of Butch or really worried about him at all. Don't think anyone in the East is now.

The only way I'd fire Butch Jones is if he missed a bowl game. That means he would have lost to Vandy, Mizzou, and KY only winning against TTU. I still wouldn't fire him. I wouldn't extend him or give him a raise. I wouldn't even ask him to change his assistants. I would tell him next year he was on the clock. I would offer up whatever cash he needed for new assistance if he chose that route. Then he would either succeed or he would hang himself.

Wouldn't fire the guy but it should place him squarely on the hot seat for next year.

The goal from day one was SEC east title in 2016. Outside chance at playoffs. For us to be ranked 92nd in total offense with all the talent on that side of the ball is an absolute joke. The loss to USCe is on the same level as UK in 2012.

We'd have to lose to TTU to miss a bowl. If that happens, then yeah, he will have to go.

Nobody is scared of Butch, but that doesn't make Mac a great coach.

I want Mac there as long as possible, Florida could be scary with a good coach.

I wonder if at any part during the year, esp around GA or aTm, if the staff thought about moving hurd to hback/te. I mean with how hurd struggled with running effectively but saw success with AK and JK running the same scheme if they entertained the idea.

I will be utterly shocked if Butch isn't here for at least one more year. If our administration has shown anything it's that they're maddeningly cheap and overly accepting of underachieving.

Until Cheek and the rest of the blue hairs on the BOT are gone, I see no reason to think that this trend will change.

GV247 has some passive aggressive articles up.

First article title: Jones: Hurd says he will transfer (subtitled by: Jalen Hurd's status with the Tennessee Volunteers is as ambiguous as the myriad cliches that mark the UT football program.)

Second article title: Butch Jones takes time to tout bowl eligibility subtitled by: Amid transfer talk, injury updates and looking back at Saturday’s loss to South Carolina, Tennessee coach Butch Jones took time during his press conference on Monday to tout his team closing in on bowl eligibility.)

The media is going to do its thing, but it is actually somewhat refreshing to see them get after Butch a little bit.

He's not great but he's the class of the East by a long shot.

Unlike Butch, he actually has an offensive identity and knows how to call plays and develop QBs. Will be interesting to see how he fares without an elite defense, though. His recruiting is headscratching thus far.

Just curious. IMO, it is pretty difficult to fire him if he ends up with 9 wins this year. He inherited a mess, and I am still not sure future coaches would want to take a job where his predecessor clearly improves and gets fired.

I had thought about this scenario before the season. I said that I would be disappointed if we didn't get to Atlanta, but barring a collapse, it doesn't mean he should be fired. I have no issue with him being on the proverbial hot seat.

They've been waiting for this moment.

He won't be going anywhere till our idiot AD leaves.

First thing he should do to impress his new boss is fire Debord, Azzani and Mahoney. Those 3 stooges have done nothing of significance as coaches. They get big fat F's all around. It's on Butch for keeping them this long.

Then let Shoop decide what to do with the Defensive staff.

I believe Hat stated when Butch was hired that it took the Cincy media about 2 years to completely tire from his constant clichés and coach speak...looks like the Knoxville media is about 2 years late.
