I think because of the situation Butch inherited, he had to allow for divas like Hurd to exist to a degree. That's his prize recruit and he is from a very important recruiting area.

Up to this year, we have always played disciplined and played hard. That is the sign of a well coached team. Something is off this year and I believe it to be an anomaly based on prior years.

Do I think Butch is Saban? No. But I still have hope he can be Dabo. Rome wasn't built in a day and I think he can still get the job done. He isn't afraid to make changes. He has proven that.

I am still backing him.

I think your first paragraph is spot on.

It will be our luck that Butch will leave after the season to another job and we won't have an AD in place to hire the next coach. Tennessee is so stupid I would expect them to let Hart make the hire on his way out the door. Tennessee cannot screw this AD hire up. It may be the most important step in fixing this mess. And it must be someone who expects excellence and championships not mediocrity and just making bowls x number of years in a row.

Being a Tennessee fan is like living in a sports related TV drama.... this feels like a storyline someone made up.

A starting RB on the verge of breaking a prestigious record transferring to play another position....

What an insane story.

I couldn't stand the guy and all I am saying is that he did constantly talk about Hurd not being happy with the way he was being used and about him wanting to leave.

I get it. You're right. But this guy has an agenda-- and it's not bringing news to VN. Some of what he says is true and some of it's a stretch. People are hating on Hurd a lot worse than they hated on PW-- and he left the same way for the same reasons. Two 5*s gone in a month. A third 5* threatening to follow.

But... spilt milk. Hurd's gone, officially and forever this time. Snap and clear.

I still back Butch as well and will continue to do so as long as there are staff changes made. If he wants to be successful he needs to hire the best OC out there and hand him full control of the offense. Keep Gillespie and Larry Scott and maybe Z, though I'd be fine if he was gone.

Totally agree. Was thinking about this last night. I believe Hurd commited before Butch even coached a game. Whether he fit the system or not, he was an instate 5 star talent. He had to recruit him and had to get the recruiting rolling.

I am down on Butch, but I was down on him after Arkansas last year. He showed great resolve by bringing the team back. He will either do that again or leave on his own.

If what 34 is saying is true, and I'm leaning that way, this could be a great thing for team 120.

What we've seen the last few weeks seemed like something going on in the locker room. This passes the sniff test.

Could this team get unified and finish strong? I think it's likely.

According to Hubbs an AD will be in place by the end of the year.

Richmond? Could see that after losing his spot.

  1. Jalen Hurd (RB)
  2. Dewayne Hendrix (DE)
  3. Derrell Scott (RB)
  4. Daniel Helm (TE)
  5. Dontavius Blair (OT)
  6. D'Andre Payne (CB)
  7. Michael Sawyers (DT)
  8. Joe Henderson (DE)
  9. Treyvon Paulk (RB)
  10. Vic Wharton (WR)
  11. Ray Raulerson (OT)
  12. Neiko Creamer (TE)

I think that is accurate as to all who've left.

So there is still another 5* considering to leave? Kongbo? I thought it had been confirmed that he wasn't leaving?

Brice reporting that Hurd refused to play in the 2nd half and that his teammates called him out on this last night. If this is true, even though he has been my favorite player, this is actually good news. It stinks, I'm not happy, but if that's correct, then he quit on the team. I'm sure there's more too it, who knows what Butch did or didn't promise, but this whole thing stinks

I said before the season I didn't think Butch would be here in 2018. I feel obviously very strongly about that now. Reason why I thought that was one of the following would happen:

1. He has a subpar 2016 compared to standards and then 2017 rebuilding year is 7-5/8-4 and he's let go.

Or

2. He has a very good 2016 and 2017 rebuilding year is down, so he takes a lateral or slight downgrade job while his stock is high and he can "never get fired."

Or

3. A combo, which is happening now

Exactly what I predicted last night. Close out with wins over 4 crappy teams and it is all of a sudden fixed.
