I don't think he's as bad as Dooley. I just see him as an 8-9 win coach. Unless things spiral wildly out of control (which I don't think will happen), I don't see 2017 being the debacle that 2012 was for Dooley.

I still think Shoop is a good DC too. Now where near Sunseri level.

You are giving your opinion on a message board which is fine. At least you are using the brain the good Lord gave you. Though you don't believe in that. Regardless, anyone else who is stating he is another Dooley loses any credibility in any other comments they make. That is the most stupid thing when you realize where we were and where we are now. Nick is right on this. Easy to be a wussy and say Butch will fail. He did fail Saturday. That is a battle and not the war. He can correct things and we will improve. If he does not, then eventually he will be gone. Kids have done well in the classroom and if we win nine this year despite what the product looks like with penalties ect, it will be consider progress. Then we will see what happens in 17. If we go 10-3 and fire the guy, then we will get a Dooley like hire again and be in the abyss. Snap judgements are usually not ever good.

SIAP, I'm still trying to catch up on the thread. But Swain (I know, a lot of y'all hate him) just said that Hurd leaving is not a rumor. Unless something major changes, he's done playing at UT.

Twitter is crazy. Some UGA fans saying they heard that 6-13 players quit the team (including Hurd) and the coaches blew up at each other.

Old74/Uncle, has stirred up more trouble and has used the FF as his platform. Its hard for me to believe that hurd didn't know about 74 saying stuff that he didn't like and was unhappy. If Hurd knew the whole time then it becomes an agenda and man 74 seem to have one. He has been stirring it up on CBJ the whole season. Doing what he can to make it look like it is all on CBJ. Not taking up for CBJ, just saying its pretty weak letting your uncle do your dirty work.

It's also dumb as **** on Jalen and his family. Even with the spin of the family or affiliates he still looks selfish as hell. Usually the truth in the middle so the truth may even expose him as being more of a cancer. What team is going to draft or sign a RB that is too big, has no vision and is a cancer in the locker room? No team will. He ruined his nfl chances, he ruined his relationship with the community/football program and he ruined his legacy as a record holder.

So if an owner or HC picks an oc that Jalen doesn't like he's going to start a divide in the locker room? Yeah, won't work. He will get ousted like Greg McElroy.

I have little sympathy for people like this. If he hit most open holes, had a few big runs, etc. then his gripe would be different. He has too many mistakes of his own on tape to take 74s schtick seriously.

My biggest issue with the Hurd situation: if you are going to start him then give the man a chance to succeed. Don't place square peg in round hole.

Adjust so he can thrive. Tweak your system to work with his amazing talent.

If you aren't willing to do that then have the balls to start someone who does fit and let him walk.

Makes me mad.

What "amazing talent" are you talking about? I have never seen anything "amazing" from him.

I don't think this is the time to fire him. It would send the wrong message on a lot of levels, we don't have the leadership in place with on the administrative level for it right now, and there will probably be at least 2, if not 3-4 more attractive jobs open at the end of this season.

All I'm saying is there isn't a lot of reason to feel confident in Butch moving forward unless there are some really big changes to this staff.

And I'm not so sure that a round of hiring new offensive staff will go as well for us as we'd all hope.

I agree, I think we need to back off the fire CBJ but I do believe what he does staff wise will determined his future. Especially, on the OC front. One other thing I believe that CBJ needs to get a grip on and that who is in charge. Sounds like Hurd is butt hurt cause he didn't get things his way. JMO <--------- means you can't get mad at me if you disagree. :)

Reasonable counterpoint. We still have to let things play out before we can take a reasoned look at this season.

74 has stirred the pot since last year. He/she/it put out the 'he reached out to Ohio St' after the season, and then Jalen's mother squashed everything by saying Jalen wasn't transferring. I have no idea whom 74 is, but it is obviously someone connected in some fashion to the family. It is also obvious that 74 has had an agenda by bringing the type of information he/she/it has to the fanbase about the going ons behind closed doors...stirring up the crap. I wish Jalen luck in whatever his future endeavors are. He has fought for every yard he has gotten since he has been here, but there has always seemed to be some sort of drama since after his freshman year, all started by 74.

Butch should be Dabo Swinney 2.0. Get good coordinators and get out of the way.

This. Sumlin is seeing success with that strategy too. Noel Mazzone has taken over that offense and they look much better.

It's dumbfounding how coaches have proof from the outback bowl that we can dominate teams of we use Hurd properly, then during the very next season we totally abandon it. No other P5 HC or OC would look at that success and never go back to it.

UGA fans are hoping that's true to distract them from the fact they hired a Lloyd Christmas look a like to lead their team full of 5*s to a last second win over Nichols St before losing to a Derek Mason coached Vanderbilt football team at home

This is true. I think we have a good DC in place as well.

My only worry is that with a lame duck AD Butch will go out and hire another guy based on his relationship and familiarity instead of on merit again.

So true. Mind blowing that the coaches didn't keep any of what we saw from the NU game as at least a wrinkle to be used situationally.

Arkansas radio has talked about how pitiful Tennessee is for the last 15 minutes. Said arky should be glad they have Bielema because butch wouldn't ever get to a bowl game if his team played in the west.

I just can't believe Butch is so damn stubborn that he would be willing to sabatage what should be a great season in order to continue running his offensive scheme with no tweaks or adjustments whatsoever, even though the offensive line and QB have clearly taken many steps backward. I hope he is asked some tough questions today at the presser. He needs to provide some real solutions to this rather than his coach speak. And if the Hurd rumor really is true then help us all- because even though his play is clearly off this season and obviously something happened in the GA game- this is something Tennessee does not need in the headlines right now.

So, is Swain the one who started the drama nationally (which began publicly on Vol Nation) about Butch punching that kid?

We do that within games. We'll run a play a couple of times and get good yards out of it and never go back.

The most maddening thing about how bad the offense has looked this year is how good we looked in the bowl game. Granted it was NW but that I-formation with a lead blocker was a thing of beauty. It's asinine that Butch wouldn't keep that installed. That would lead to huge rushing numbers with our backs, especially Hurd.

Completely and utterly asinine.

Confused on the we never ran I formation one time comment. We have run it. We prob could run it more but it's not and never was going to be our base offense

Prof, for Jalen sake, I hope 74 is full of crap. If he's not, he has exposed dirty laundry that will create a locker room red flag for nfl teams. He has lost Jalen money regardless but if Jones and coaches can debunk the rumors then he still has a chance.

RB is the last position to have these problems right now in the nfl. Value of the RB is down and there are plenty that are just has talented of not more without the attitude.

I agree completely. I said when the whole UGA/Jalen drama happened that if 74 was a relative then he must hate him because of all the stupidity he's spewed on a public board that's made Jalen out to be a drama queen and now what he's posting looks even worse for JH. The NFL was already fantastic when it came to finding out about that time in HS when you did something dumb or the time in elementary school you stuck bubble gum in little Suzy's hair but thought no one knew about it, but with the aid of the internet, and in this case a possible relative who appears to be unable to post anything that doesn't paint you in a bad light, it's impossible to hide anything from them.

I hope all of this is just your standard rumor mongering bs after a bad loss and a poster who is talking out of their rear end for attention, trolling, and/or fake e-cred purposes because 74's picture of JH has not been flattering. I've said before that I thought 74 was full of it but with everything else that's floating around I'm starting wonder.

Also think the WR/TE is nonsense. Why would he want to play those positions? He isn't a NFL WR. TE maybe but he gets banged up enough as a RB. I would think if he wanted a different positon it would be Lb or S

It is maddening! It's almost as if Butch is trying to sabatage himself to get his buyout or something- it makes absolutely no sense!!! The offense looked unbelievable in the bowl game and propelled Tennessee as a hyped team coming into this season. The offense now looks like a shell if it's former self. A middle school coach would have more sense than to abandon what clearly worked to the players strengths and produces WINS. Butch cares more about his damn system than wins apparently. And he should be asked about this very thing today. As luck would have it, only Tennessee would have a head coach that is this stupid.
