The Vols never led in last night's game. STs got a boneheaded penalty on the opening kickoff. The O had 3 TOs and spotted SCAR 14 points on 2 of them. The D let a HS QB run all over them for 4 qtrs. The FG was just the punctuation mark on a night full of inexcusable errors by an undisciplined football team.

Our problems started :01 in and lasted till :00 was left.

I don't agree with this. First touchdown we helped them down the field with penalties. One touchdown was a short field because Dobbs threw a terrible int. They made a good throw on a slant route. Last touchdown was due to a short field cause a freshman, who shouldn't have been in the game but was due to injuries, caused a fumble and another safety, who shouldn't have been in the game but was due to injuries, blew the coverage. The defense played fine other than that. I am concerned about the lack of turnovers, I do not understand why we have no ints. I agree we need to replace Martinez. But the defense played fine for the most part. Dobbs played horrible. That's really the difference. Sure there were other things, lack of energy, poor gameplay, injuries, bad play calling, but I'd Dobbs performs we win anyway. He played awful

That fumble was actually on Dobbs. Butch said in the post game show that the play was a run pass option. That means CFA is supposed to run the play as if he's getting the ball and it's Dobbs' job make the read and adjust accordingly.

Adding to Dobbs atrocious performance. Say what we might, this is mostly on dobbs

1.) We know about Preston Williams quitting, the dismissal of Danny O'Brien and the weird Jalen Hurd situation. And now the team being "lethargic" and inexcusably not ready to play after a bye week and with everything to play for. All that begs the question: Are there major internal problems going on with this team? Is it simply a lack of leadership? A lack of coaching?

1. I think the O'Brien and Williams deals are isolated. Everyone on the team loved OB, that was just on him. He knew it and took responsibility for it.

But, I don't think there are any doubts there's some chemistry issues and frustration from players. With JRM and Sutton out on defense the majority of the year they've had a leadership void. Barnett has stepped up to help provide that, but not enough guys are taking ownership in my opinion.

As for the offense, I was a little concerned about the lack of vocal leadership coming into the season. It's hard to listen and want to listen to a leader of they aren't playing well. I'll be very interested to see how this team responds this week.

Without injuries this should have been a playoff contending defense. With all the injuries there was plenty of experience to win against a lowly South Carolina team and don't give me this well they got the ball back X amount of times. They gave up 24pts to a terrible offense. CJJ would in no shape form or fashion would have given up 24 PTs to that offense with a high school kid playing QB

Jancek gave up 28 points at home the the 125th ranked offense in last years Vandy game.

Leadership problems? Good leadership is a direct result of good coaching. Its up to the coaches to develop these young players into veteran leaders. Taking accountability is also a sign of good leadership. When you have a HC that doesn't take accountability for the garbage hires, lack of qb coach, poor showing vs ALOT of bad teams why expect it from the players. Lack of leadership starts with Jones. No way in any form do I blame the players for last night.

Just got back from Columbia. Great environment for a ****ty team. I think it was louder in WBS than Sanford a few weeks ago.

Quick thoughts.

~Why kick a 58yd FG w/ a kicker who is 30 something percent past 40+yds?

~On the last possession (Dobbs Run), was i the only one to see a WR (looked like Jennings, maybe Croom) wide open in the middle of the field?

~Anyway we see Dormady start or have significant playing time vs TTU? I would love to see Dobbs sit out and let Dormady and SJ scrap it out vs TTU. Then let Dobbs start vs UK and if he ****s up we know what the back ups are talking about.

Overall good time in Columbia. Wish we would of came out with a W. I'm not worried about Butch. He is here for the long run regardless if we win or lose out.

I think the offensive leadership part is spot on. Dobbs isn't a team leader. JG and SJ play a bigger leadership role than him, and that's not a good thing.

I agree with you. It's been off all year on that side of the ball.

If we get a spark, we ignite and take off. When we don't get a spark, we don't have a leader step up and light a fire under anyone. Big part that's been missing, too go with the flow.

So the offense has checked out on Dobbs because they don't feel he's playing well enough to command their respect. Is that the gist of that last paragraph?

If so, this year probably isn't going to get any better.

Not only is he a below average QB, he's a crappy leader. This season is lost, down the crapper... It's time to see what the other QB's got. These players are quitting and have no fight in them... That's on the head coach.

They didn't seem to have much originality or tradition and the originality they did have sucked (i.e. rooster crowing). Pretty apparent lack of class by their fans in chanting while we had players down on the ground, but becoming completely silent when one of their players was injured through his own fault (targeting).

Quick thoughts.

~Why kick a 58yd FG w/ a kicker who is 30 something percent past 40+yds? Who knows? Should have had another play if our QB didn't squander time away for 4 yds.

~On the last possession (Dobbs Run), was i the only one to see a WR (looked like Jennings, maybe Croom) wide open in the middle of the field? Nope, I saw it too. Looked like there were definitely some opportunities down field and he had the time.

Then let Dobbs start vs UK and if he ****s up we know what the back ups are talking about. Would love to see Dobbs take the start and run a possession or two before throwing Dormady in for the remainder of the game. Doubtful that will happen.

Overall good time in Columbia. Wish we would of came out with a W. I'm not worried about Butch. He is here for the long run regardless if we win or lose out.

I know a lot of people are saying an OC change won't make a difference, as its Butch's O and he won't let anyone make significant changes.

To me, that decision will either make or break his career. He has all the evidence needed that his O doesn't work well enough to win big in this league.

Even great coaches with proven systems make changes when they think it will be a net benefit (its a big part of what makes them great). Now is not the time to be stubborn. Butch has lost the fan base and probably the ears of a lot of recruits. He needs to make a philosophy change, and start selling the future again. That's the sell job he's best at anyways.

Look at Saban: he has 2 former head coaches as SUPPORT staff. Never satisfied, never believes they can't be better. I despise the guy, but that's the kind of attitude it takes.

Was really hoping to wake up to find Mahoney has been fired and Debord reassigned to OL. Gillespie given the OC.

Shake this up Butch

Can't underestimate the overall impact on the offense of having an Oline that cannot get push vs the likes of Appy State and Ohio and regularly requires running backs and QB's to dodge defenders 2 or 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Some players don't like how they fit or don't fit in CBJ's system. Some don't like the way the coaches manage personnel. Some don't like being moved around like chess pieces and some don't feel they're being put in the best position to succeed. PW left because of this and others almost left last year, but were talked into staying.
