Atlanta Braves Thread (I HURT MYSELF TODAY TO SEE IF I STILL FEEL)

Turnovers. Not sure how that's on the coaching.

Ball security has been a problem all year. Fortunately we had been insanely lucky in recovering fumbles in the first five games. At least a part of the fault for this ongoing problem has to lie with coaching.

Don't get me wrong -- I've been generally pretty satisfied with the coaching, or at least the public part we can see from the outside. But I'm not yet willing to give the staff a pass for the fact that we're halfway through the season and this team has only played roughly 3.5 good halves so far. It's an ongoing problem.

It's never been a problem though.

Like I think Fumbling is just somewhat luck too.

We could very easily have lost to both (!) Appy State and Ohio because of the fumbling. I'd say that's a problem.

I agree that there's a lot of luck involved, especially in who recovers fumbles once they're on the ground. All I'm saying is that this is a team that fumbles a lot and commits a crapload of penalties and seems to take forever to get it going on both sides of the ball. We're halfway through the season now so these are all real trends. This has not exactly been a tightly run ship so far.

Was talking about this earlier. How is it that all of a sudden, we've become a team that fumbles and commits stupid penalities in year 4? That makes no sense at all.

Pressure, maybe? I listened to a podcast this summer in which a national writer used Tennessee as his example of a team which had all the weight of the world on their shoulders. "As soon as you walk in that building you can tell how tightly everybody's asses are clenched."

This is still probably a team that's going to go 10-2 and win the East. I'm still generally very happy at how far we've come. Yet ungrateful as it is, I admit that I'm still a little disappointed that this isn't going to be the championship-level team that we all hoped it would be. The talent was there. So far the level of play hasn't been, at least on any kind of a consistent basis.

If we have Kirkland and Sutton, I'll take our chances against anybody in Atlanta.

Me too. When we're clicking, this team can beat anybody in the country. Which makes it so maddening that they've spent half of every game so far shooting themselves in the face.

Just same crazy ass plays. I agree we've been lucky as hell but the last three games we've just made silly ass turnovers. It's crazy yes but it's not an indictment on the coaching staff IMO.

You don't think the staff deserves any heat for having a point differential of something like -90 so far in the first quarter? Everything is random?

I guess the time to revisit What It All Means is in the offseason. All I'm saying now is that I'm not yet ready to carry the coaches around in a chair when they've got a team with championship-level talent and yet they could easily be 3-3 or worse.

The last three games? No. We've moved the ball in all three first halves. I'm not saying let's carry him off the field on everybody's shoulders but at the same time I'm not sure what the hell the coaching staff is supposed to do different. For example, last week Kamara fumbles on the first play in UGA territory and Hurd fumbles at the 1 not paying attention. If that doesn't happens, it's probably tied or UT lead. In the TAMU game, Kamara fumbles inside the 10 and Dobbs makes a bad play and loses the ball inside our own 20, along with Evan Berry fumbling on a horrible non call of targeting on a kickoff. What is the coaching staff supposed to do different?

Officials have no ****ing clue what they are looking for. It's all ****ing arbitrary.

This Miami player just got jobbed and it may very well cost them the game. The player obviously moved his head away, lowered his shoulder, and attempted to hit the receiver in the chest. Because the receiver is literally 5'8, the hit glanced the bottom of the receivers face mask. Of course they call targeting and throw the player out of the game.

There has to be a better way in these instances where it is clearly not targeting.
