Positive Thread: Guys who looked GREAT vs App State

Well done--a tread on "positives" has to have an impromptu negative post

Heh, man, I'm one of the biggest sunshine pumpers on the boards these days, ask anyone. But I'm no more willing to give out "excellence" stickers than I am to pass out butt-kickin's when they're not really deserved.

Medley did well, he did what he needed to do, what he was asked to do. But he wasn't challenged to excel in that game. So he didn't. Excelling for Aaron is hitting the longer shots more frequently than he has in the past. We already knew he was clutch from 39 on down.

*shrug* it's just level-headed fact-checking, that's all.

Jalen Hurd deserves credit for last night's game. And I'm not talking about diving on the fumble. I have no clue how he rushed for 100+. Those were tough yards, considering what he was getting from his line. I give him props for his effort.

I agree with everything in your post and your reasons for it. That said I need Jalen to protect the football better, he laid one on the ground again last night, we don't need him getting an Arian Foster type reputation on The Hill.

Only one....Abernathy. No one else played well. Disagree with you on the two DTs...they were awful all night long, got pushed around for 4 quarters. They gashed us in the run game all night long. What did you see that changed your mind?

Watch the game again. We weren't gashed except for a few plays. Most of App State's rushing came off misdirection.

O'Brien looked great taking on double teams. Vickers was a monster flowing to the ball. I really liked how they looked.

Not so quick on Medley, friend. His Achilles heel has always been attempts beyond 40 yards. None of his good work last night was from that far out.

I have high hopes for the young man, and think he has great potential, but we haven't seen him excel yet. He had a good game. Let's leave it at that.

Go Vols!

I hear ya, but there was immense pressure on him to hit every kick he lined up for last night, and he manned up. I was proud of him.

they were gashing us up the middle all night long....either App State is really good, or we are awful in the trenches. Dobb looked hesitant to run or scramble. Someone needs to tell him that he is not a pocket passer. Run first and pass second. While you are playing not to get hurt, you will get hurt.

Getting Tuttle and Alexis Johnson out there is paramount before SEC action...

Getting Kongbo up to speed will be beneficial as well..

Rewatch the game then. McDowell came in unexpectedly and balled out. Cam had a great game at CB. DK Jr had a good game as well.

Let's be honest. There is no way we are as bad as we showed last night in the trenches. App st has to be really good and had to be really coached/hyped up. I'm trying to be positive here. Barnett seemed like he was every where last night but I don't remember much of the game lol

I think we adjust some things and play much better against VT next week

It was almost as though we went into this game preparing for a west coast offense or something. We failed to set the edge and not a single person on that defensive line kept any containment on the option reverse plays.......that they ran several times. The middle of the line was getting whipped often as well.

100% right. App State got wide, to the edge and it felt like 10 seconds before I even saw an orange jersey in the picture. Our defense looked slow, out of position and disinterested. The only player that showed up on either side of the ball all night long was Micah Abernathy. I can see now why Shoop has been so high on him

McDowell did ok, as did Sutton, nothing special outside of the nice pick. DKJr was very disappointing. And no thanks regarding watching that game again. I don't like to vomit.

Well goodness it was App State...every player should have been looking like monsters and playing well.

It was an ugly game but I seen several players that looked good, even great at times. A lot of times other players made stupid mistakes that negated the good but it don't take away from the players that had a good game and nobody plays a mistake free football game.

All had pretty good games
Cortez
Vickers
Danny O
Lewis
Barnett
Vereen
Abernathy
Sutton
Malone
PWilly
Hurd
Medley

Having App state get theirs at times was gona happen and a muffed punt is one mistake early in the game. Wish it didn't happen but it did and good teams do something about it when mistakes like that take place.

Too much can get taken from one game, good or bad. Let it ride and see how things shake out. Clean up the mistakes, get focused, let Dobbs run often as we need instead of trying to make him a pocket passer, all things that are pretty ez to improve in a week.

What does worry me is play calling and the Oline. Those take a lot more steps to fix. Maybe Chance Hall will be back soon and everybody will get comfortable in their correct positions and maybe Debord is smart enough to see where he failed and fix the prob.

Personally I am not as down on this team as some. It may be the sunshine pumper in me but overall I think the defense did well and the offense made enough plays to win the game. Most of the big plays they had were following some kind of misdirection. After them how many teams are we going to play that run an offense like theirs. Personally I'm going to reserve judgement until after this weekend
