How We Got To Here: Christianity Version

what older mythologies did the bible steal from?

there is a great deal of evidence that supports the Bible from a historical standpoint.

the Bible is very accurate when it describes the spiritual position of man.

There were earlier myths that described
1) the fall
2) the flood
3) the Messiah...heck Christians even stole Jesus' birthday from the Pagans.
Watch this series it will help to explain the origins of myths

You won nothing but your own typed nonsense.

Keep your religious beliefs confined to your church and your household.

Otherwise, they have no place in our secular democracy, our Republic.
Stop judging me and forcing your beliefs on me.

I simply think that many Christians have never read the Bible all the way through..especially the Old Testament. The problem with most religions, is that they have been accepted too long without debate from fear of being labeled a nonbeliever.

You're free to think what you want, but should recognize when you put it into print, and question the intelligence of others while promoting yours as being "superior", you come across as an arrogant hypocrite. I doubt that you are, which is why I simply said this thread is not one of your better moments.

Then they are not christians

I'm not sure what you're getting at volbeast. Are you really suggesting people can't be Christians if they have not read the Bible from beginning to end?

And that's true, why, because you read it on the internet somewhere? No, Christianity didn't steal from pagan myths. The whole mithra and Horus stuff is a bunch of internet bunk that is being perpetuated by fools, more gullible than any religious nut.
You are truly something.
Find me in the bible where Jesus birthday is identified as pertaining to the Roman calendar? It isn't.

Unlike you, i've invested time studying this subject. I'm going to give you a pass. Bring it up again, and i'll embarrass you with the facts.

Why aren't they Christians? Because they haven't read the bible from cover to cover? Because they have harbored doubts?

I'm not a Christian but of the people that I believe to be true Christians live their life in and by that book. They may not have read word for word every single page but they study it constantly and definitely don't need a non-believer interpreting it for them.

So gays can't hold hands in public? No kissing in public? You are mean.

Stop judging me and forcing your beliefs on me.

If I thought you were posting this with even a touch of ironic self-criticism, I would have given this a "like."

You're not, however. You sincerely believe that me telling you to keep your religious beliefs out of the public sphere, where they have no place, is limiting your freedom. Of course you can interject your unfounded beliefs into our public policies if you so desire. That doesn't make it advisable or smart though.

Absolutely he would.
This is post modern, secular elitism at it's finest.
Don't think people like him won't support Gestapo tactics to shut down religious liberty.

Come on Roust, that's a strawman argument and you know it. Nobody wants to shut down religious liberty, but lots of people don't want to be governed by the religious principles of any particular brand of religion.

You would restrict freedom of speech?

Like I told Roust, you're free to interject your unfounded nonsense into our science, otherwise known as our "secular democracy." But that doesn't mean it's smart or advisable. We don't need public policy formulated upon first century ideas about how the universe and societies work.

In other words, keep your religion to your churches and your homes.

Yep. You are a bigot

Let me explain something to you Trumpers, although I know it will be difficult for you to understand.

Saying black people "do absolutely nothing" to help themselves, despite evidence to the contrary, is being a bigot - at best. Your lot was rightfully called out for that last week.

Saying a person who believes, without any trace of evidence, in sky gods and other unicorns, should not try to interject their unfounded beliefs into our public policy is not being a bigot. That's just what we call being smart.

I underlined, bolded, and italicized the most critical part of this comment since you're a Trumper and probably need the additional help in understanding my comment.

So only those who have formulated ideas accepted by you, and people who think like you, should have a say in the direction in which our country moves?

What do blacks have to do with our conversation?

Your faux outrage of Christians is ridiculous. You are a condescending troll. It must suck to be you.

I pray that one day Jesus comes and fills your empty heart with happiness.

While there's no doubt that would produce a far better society, no, that is not what I've said.

Me telling you to keep your unfounded nonsense out of our public policy is not the same as me telling you that you should not be able to use that same nonsense to approach public policy.

You need to learn to read good and do other things better.

I'll still pray for you

I appreciate the sincerity, I really do, but you should save yourself the waste of time. It won't make any difference.

You, see, I have this demon inside of me, and it's called "Intellect." And do you know what Intellect tells me? He tells me that Satan is actually the hero of the Bible, because, when everyone else is just doing things mindlessly, Satan and Intellect are there to give us pause, asking us, "Are you sure you really want to do that? Upon what grounds? It makes no sense."

I've also studied enough myths to know that many predate the Bible...look there is no way that the Earth is as young as Christians claim...there were other civilizations in other parts of the world during the time of the flood, so there was no global flood. Keep believing if you want but there are fewer and fewer of you guys each year.

I do ok. Thanks for your concern. I prefer not to listen to the advice of people who think just a little too much of their own opinions. You must be or have been an awesome professor.

It aint "your" science.
Your arrogance is ridiculous.

Most of our government is founded on principles older than the 1st century. Further, last i checked, it's a direct contradiction of Christian doctrine to implement a theocracy. so, when you say don't impose your religion on me, you are actually contradicting yourself.

The US has a rich history of non-theocratic rule, with overt Christian practice within its boundaries. Get over yourself.
