Bristol already behind schedule (updates added)

Other than bringing in some of the dirt for a media event today, which was obviously cancelled, there was no actual work scheduled for today. So they're actually not behind on the fence or anything else at all.

But thanks for playing VolNation Overreaction Theatre.

I was told they were gonna start right after the race I guess I took it more literal than what he ment it. I'm not overreacting I have no doubt everything will be perfect or close to it weather it's the fence the field everything will be great

Here is the latest.

1) They have to tear down a fence. Which one guy on volnation can do by himself. I trust him. But I think they are going with a huge crew of professionals to take down the fence.

2) How fast can grass grow? I heard they had 10 guys (same guys who will do the fence) out there today scattering seed by hand onto a big pile of dirt. They are hoping for rain, if not they have 10 watering cans for the guys to water the big pile of dirt.

So...it could be really, really tough to pull this off. I mean they lost a whole day today. THEY ARE 24 HOURS BEHIND.

This going to be a major cluster imho, one does not simply create a natural, playable football surface in a matter of days. I realize much of the grass is already there but I am going to go out on a limb here and say it has never had a major football game played on it by grown men. I hope I am wrong but I hope for the players sakes it doesn't lead to any major injuries more than anything.

This would be relevant..

if they were playing on natural grass.

Never said they were trying to grow a field, I said I was concerned that a field that has never had a major football game on it would be ready in a matter of days. I would venture to guess it has never even held a practice on it. You never know how turf will hold up that has never been played on. I also stated that I hoped it was going to be played on turf not grass. I was concerned about players getting hurt. I could care less what the surface is as long as it is ready for play.

You gotta find the blue font to save yourself. :eek:lol:

DeerPark, I heard the board stretchers that the workers need will get there a few days late. Any good news about it?

Natural? I heard when this was first being planned that this game would be played on Astro-turf. Has that changed? If so, I haven't heard a peep. Reshaping that ground and getting grass to take hold in less than a month? Sounds impossible to me.

Due to the rain delay, BMS is 24 hours behind schedule converting the infield to a football field for Sept 10. It's a very intense schedule as it is and now 24 hours behind. Hopefully weather dries up and they won't lose any more time.

IMO they were fools for only giving themselves 11 days to do this. They should have expected weather delays.

I was always saying do 20 days from the start. I know it's extremely unlikely that the game gets canceled but it is still possible...that better not happen or we will RIOT!!!

Painting the field and creating endzones is one thing, making it durable for heavy play is quite another.
Is it artificial? If so, it makes much more sense imho

You may just have to own this one, I'm afraid.

This process is more than just "laying down turf," but you would expect them to have factored in delays.

A step-by-step look at transforming BMS into a football field in 19 days | | AstroTurf

From that article, a look at the grass, which has grown in well and is ready for transplanting:

What grass? It is going to be turf, and installing it is not going to be an issue. It will take longer to paint it than it will to put it down correctly.
