Vols Ranked #9 In AP Poll

So looking at this...

In the first week, you could have a couple of top ten teams get knocked off.

Bama could lose to USC.

Oklahoma could lose to Houston.

LSU could lose to Wisconsin.

In a crazy world, FSU could get beat by Ole Miss.

I'd be perfectly content moving up a few spots after week 1.

That could set the tone for a crazy season in college football.

I'm not saying they all will, but a couple could slip.

Easiest games for week 1:

The Vols with Appy State
Michigan with Hawaii (@ Michigan)
Ohio State with Bowling Green (@ OSU)

With a couple of middle of the road games:

Stanford with Kansas State (@ Stanford)
Clemson with Auburn (@ Auburn)

Things could be interesting.

I think UGA could be in for a fight, Bama will probably be played close for a half and then pull away, FSU/Ole Miss will be a wild card game IMO. That one is hard to pick.

I would think, if that were to happen, that we would get jumped by every single one of those teams except Wisconsin. But who knows when it comes to these polls.

I could see that scenario. I also think Wisconsin jumping us would depend on how we look in a win over an inferior Appalachian State team. If we boat race them I don't see them jumping us. If it's a 10-14 point win I would say there's a good chance of Wisconsin jumping ahead of us.

I wouldn't count out Houston either. That's a tough program with a good coach and OU is known for slipping in a game they shouldn't.

While it's not a "home" game for Houston, it's certainly got the home team advantage.

IMO, UGa will slip by NC, but I'd be amazed if FSU lost to Ole Miss. OM lost too much from last year on D....and Treadwell was worth 12 points by himself.

Both Baylor and UF being ranked is slightly confusing. The spread of first place votes is a goofy, as well. The AP Top 25 Poll | NCAA College Football

Per @ralphDrussoAP: "Seven teams received first-place votes in the AP preseason Top 25. That's the most since 1998 when eight teams got first place votes."

"since 1998"

UT should be ranked higher than stanford or michigan with all the talent coming back! The vols never get respect in the media.

Iowa, Oregon and Stanford won't be there too long imo

Stanford will prolly be better this year. Hogan was functional (and got drafted), but they have a backload of highly rated QBs. In this offense, as long as McCaffery stays healthy, not a beat missed IMO.

I hope the pollsters are at least as accurate with our ranking as they were last season, when we were 25th in the preseason and finished 23rd.

What did Butch say? "Expectations never higher externally than internally", "that's why you come to Tn", "still only 10 seniors" etc. ?

Agreed. Houston is solid. I'd be alright with them stealing one from Oklahoma.

Ole Miss won't be much different on offense than they were last year IMO. You're right about defense. FSU will be up to play what is considered one of the best SEC teams. Note, I said one of not THE best lol that will be an interesting game

I'd almost prefer the Vols start off the season ranked lower than 9th......it will be easy to go down, but difficult to go up in the ranking.
Make us proud team 120
Go Vols

Today's ranking marks the 40th time the Vols have been ranked in the AP preseason poll. It is also the highest rank for Butch Jones coached team.
