He's actually slightly worse statistically than Jancek was on 3rd down last year. We should see more sacks, TFLs, and a significant improvement in 4th down stops.

Vols were 2nd in the nation on 3rd down defense in 2015 and 124th in the nation on 4th down defense.

Actually, the difference Shoop makes better be seen on 1st down, 'cause that's the key to his philosophy. Hold 'em to little or nothing on 1st down and then dictate to the offense the next two downs.

Pretty much, but what if we didn't spy and he picked up the first with his legs?

Everyone would have said " why didn't we contain him? We didn't we have a spy on a guy like that? "

Hands down it is 4th downs. If you played Tennessee last year and didn't go for it on 4th down then you were a fool.

Shoop's aggressive style defense should instill more confidence in both the players and head coach Butch Jones, which in turn may lead to Jones/Debord to being more aggressive in the offensive play calling.
