I'd be happy with 10-2. Ecstatic with 11-1. But beat everyone but UGA in the 11-1 scenario? That doesn't make sense.

We go 10-2 in the regular season, with losses to Alabama & Florida. We take the back door route to the S.E.C. Championship game by Florida losing to UGA, LSU and another S.E.C. team.
We play LSU in the S.E.C. Championship game. We stop Leonard F. and then we set Konga & Barnett free to harass the LSU q.b. LSU can't run or pass in that game so we win. This puts us at 11 - 2.
With 2 losses, we aren't likely to appear in the National Championship play offs. We instead play in the Sugar Bowl and win against Okla-homo.
We end the season at 12 - 2. Then we see a HUGE turn over on our roster to include seniors & juniors.
2017 team will look much, much different than 2016 team.

UGA is always a tough game no matter how good or bad either team is doing. Plus Athens is always a tough place to play. Personally I think we beat them but I wouldn't be surprised if they beat us. I'd rather lose to UGA and beat Florida and Bama anyways

I think Butch needs that signature win or series of wins to truly say the program has turned. He has done a very good job but I would love to see him finish the transformation process. Although the Vols can win the East without a Bama win, I think Oct 15th is the one I would like to see as that signature win.

Butch has 2 signature wins. 2013 South Carolina and 2015 Georgia. Some even may argue the bowl game against Northwestern was one as well

Signature wins are not easy when u dont have depth. This should be an exciting year. Our players want it, just as bad as we do. Dont see that to often

I'm still not seeing why everyone thinks ATM is going to be so good.

Way I see it:
Beat Florida and UT has a letdown and loses to a *gasp* new coach and fresh QB. Rebound by beating a, once again, overrated A&M and lose a heart breaker to Bama.

Hmmm, not saying your are wrong, of course its a very subjective thing. I feel the Vols let a few get away that they had in the bag and maybe need to bag the big one. October 15th.

Don't get me wrong, I feel the Vols have a very good team, and Butch has done a good job... now let's finish the job. :) I think they can for sure. :pepper:

I like signature wins, but why not go for a signature season.... Hopefully we will look back one day and say 2016 was a damn good year for the VOLS!

I'm still not seeing why everyone thinks ATM is going to be so good.

They had the same record as we had last year in the regular season. We had 4 common opponents, AL, AR, SC, & Vandy. They won one more of those than we did. They beat Arky on a neutral site. Their defense improved from last in the conference in 2014 to one notch below us in 2015. Their passing game imploded last year against the better teams in the west. Knight is still sort of a media darling because of his sugar bowl performance against Bama in 2013. Their 2 5-star QB busts are gone and Knight has rode in to save the day. The west is still perceived as the better half of the SEC. The defense should be even better in year 2 with Chavis and they have a boat load of blue chip talent. The game is in their house so 12th man and all that. - Probably some of that BS is coloring their better judgment. :)

I think we should win but I also think it will be one of our tougher games, Alabama and Georgia being the other two really tough challenges.

I think UT is a 10-2 football team +/- 1 win. I think UT is as good as 11-1 and that one loss could come to any of UF, UGA, A&M, or Bama. It is also possible that two of those are losses. It is still also possible that three of those are losses. And, since it is the SEC and college football in general features inexplicable losses, it is also possible that a team no one is expecting to present a stumbling block has an unexpectedly great game while UT struggles. In fact, we should expect that and the only question will be if the Vols are resilient enough to win.

Personally, I think UF, A&M, and Bama are the most likely losses. Athens is a tough place to play and UGA always has talent but I just think UT, for whatever reason, is well suited to beating them and I like that game for UT under the circumstances with a QB that will be suspect to Shoop's pressure, UT's fast paced offense that performed well against UGA last year. I think UT beats UF this year (and I haven't said that in years because I've had the attitude that UF always inexplicably beats UT and has done so for years). Losing that game would be inexcusable but it is still possible whereas winning should set a positive tone. A&M will be tough because they are talented and it is on the road (hundreds if not a thousand plus miles away from Knoville) lodged between UT's three main rivals and UT is not familiar with their style of play since this will be the first matchup in years. Bama is Bama and it is the last game of this really tough series of games and will test this team's mettle.

So, I think UT is most likely to drop two of the four but I think dropping one is almost equally likely. I think the most likely loss is to Bama at the end of that really tough run. I think A&M is the second most likely loss. UF is the third most likely and UGA the least likely. In any event, I think UT wins the East. Go Vols!

I agree with WhatinVolnation. They way you rank the possible losses is exactly how I think. Would love to see us go 4-0 during that set of games but anything can happen.

It's a tough place to play and it's on the road right after having played UGA on the road. I think that has a lot to do with people thoughts on the ATM game.

What if we went through the regular season undefeated but lost to Bama in Atlanta? Would we be out of the playoffs at 11-1? and if we did make it...we could end up playing Bama 3 times...just saying what if...I think we lose 2..that 4 game stretch without a open date is asking for a lot from any team.

No way you play Bama 3 times in a season....JMO. You guys are a shoe in to win the East and meeting Bama for a 2nd time in the Championship game. But I believe regardless of the results of the regular season matchup...who wins the game in Championship game between you will determine the CFB Playoff...or New Year 6 bowl.

I originally thought you guys would lose 2 games this year, Bama being 1 and a toss-up between Georgia and TA&M. After evaluation of the camps, I believe you still lose 2 games, but they will be to VT and Bama. Some will say I am delusional, but that's what I think is gonna happen. Anyways, take care of business, win the East, beat Bama in the Championship game and your in!

I think we should turn the table round and look at it from the opposite angle. UT has a difficult 4 game stretch. Each of those teams is likely to be breaking in a new QB. Bama replaces half their starters.... with good back ups... but then they have to replace those guys to have the depth they've had. UGA has a coaching change and its own set of issues in the front 7 and passing game. UF has thin spots and plenty of questions on O.

Health and depth are the keys. If UT can manage to come out of UF, UGA, and TAM without significant injuries then they can pour everything out vs Bama. UF is critical. Lose and the Vols are facing two tough road trips with high pressure. Win and much of the pressure is off.

The other factor is Shoop. I have been on board with him since his name was announced and if it "works".... UT has a critical and powerful piece of the puzzle for beating all 4 of those teams.

I think there is reason to be optimistic about UT's chances of running that 4 game stretch.

IMO in order of likelihood of losing:

UGA
Bama
TAM
UF

But I was kind of thinking along the same lines as the recently released FPI predictions. Taken as individual games without respect to the games before or after.... I'd like UT's chances in all of them.

Lordy lordy. You're the VTech fan if I remember.

Ohio State slept on you all a few years ago. They took you lightly. Tennessee lost badly last time we played VT. PLUS its going to be thr biggest college football game ever played so best believe we will not be sleeping on the Hokies.

FSU and Clemson are the only teams comparable to Tennessee in talent in your conference.

Louisville
North Carolina
are the 2nd tier.

VTech falls somewhere after that.
There are 5 other teams on our schedule better than VTech. We're not losing 6 games.....
