Vols defensive line coach Steve Stripling said Friday that Tuttle is “right on schedule” in his recovery, and he’s “excited” to see the former top-100 prospect work his way back into playing shape and move closer to taking on a full workload on the practice field.

“He’s on schedule,” Stripling said during Tennessee’s preseason media day at Neyland Stadium. “I’m going to tell you, I’m excited about Shy. He is chomping at the bit. He can’t wait to get going. I’m having fun with him on the sideline. He keeps trying to nudge me and let him go in and take a rep, so he’s right on schedule.

“He’s exactly right where we wanted him, and obviously anxious to get him back full-go.”

Seems like this kils the "my big butt broke my leg like Shy did and I couldn't get from the couch to the fridge for a year" crowd. Because you took a refrigerator redshirt does not necessarily mean Shy needs to take a football redshirt in 2016.

Shy was on track to be great last year. He was just beginning to hit his stride when he was the victim of that cheap shot. I just hope that he can get back to where he left off

Shy was looking great. Been a long time since we have had a DT who could go sideline to sideline like him. It was exciting to watch. I think he can get back. He is going to need to gain back some muscle mass in that injured leg. Leg drive and lower body strength are critical for DL.

That new recruiting guy on SEC Country said he would not be ready by the FL game, but the videos I've seen looked like he was moving pretty good. A lot of people are assuming he's out of shape, but surely he's been working out in the pool, rowing machine etc.
