Kendrick vs Richmond

I am glad we have so many who are smarter than the coaches, who watch these players closely everyday and are accountable for winning football games. I think we should establish a consensus on VN and demand the coaches following the dictates of all the experts who post here.

Played golf with his brother a few weeks back and unless something changes in camp, BK will be the starter.

I think you skipped the OP. :)

BK was told he would be starter. Of course this can change during camp. But sounds like it is his to lose at this point.

jps2194 needs a name change to closetoBK'sbro - thanks for bringing the info!

I sensed Richmond wasn't the type who was willing to hang around waiting on a starting position from the comments last season? Hope Richmond embraces the competition and doesn't bail.

I'm really hoping this is about motivating Drew and trying to get the most out of him possible. We need Richmond to win it because he has a higher ceiling. We also need him to win it for recruiting purposes. We have to show we can develop top players and we need to show him as an example other top in-state players IMO.

Is it possible that DR isn't what he was hyped up to be? I hope not but it seems odd that someone with that much hype hasn't made some noise by now.

Too slow and limited quickness for a LT... Dobbs would get killed

That is the question (his foot speed - or is it feet speed since he has two?). One of the 247 writers said he has gotten noticeably bigger in his upper body.

One big benefit is that he can play any position on the line in a pinch.

He is not a LT

Appears the coaching staff doesn't share your opinion as he started at LT 2 years back and unless jps2194 or BK's bro are lying, then BK's been told he going to start at LT? We certainly have other options and there's good competition there so whoever wins out should be a competent LT?

All I can do and look at his play last year when he played T.. Nothing personal but not the answer

Mahoney just said in interview that they were switching him from RT to LT and back in practice so he may not necessarily be starter at LT.

New article on 247 that addresses this topic. Anybody got a subscription? Ron are you hanging around here on lunch break?

If walken's post is accurate, they started him at LT 2 years ago, he obviously was not the answer then. He obviously was not the answer last year when Kerbyson manned up and was serviceable as an LT even though not his actual position as Richmond was recruited over Kendrick for LT but was not ready as a true freshman. I have to think akin to KB, this is more about motivating Richmond than it actually is about Kendrick nailing that spot down in that we heard it was Blair and Richmond battling for it in the spring.

If a 5* LT can't win the start over someone like Kendrick, then he was never a 5* to begin with.

I hope coach plays whoever is better. I don't think you should knock a kid's potential just because he may not be ready at LT as a RS freshman. I would expect Richmond to still have a great career at UT even if he doesn't start this season.

For everyone bashing Kendrick, remember he played hurt for part of the year. If healthy he will play a lot and can play multiple positions. He is a very valuable member of this team.

Let me make sure I'm following this argument. So he was a backup as a RS freshman who got one start at LT while the 1st guy was injured. Since he didn't become the LT from that game forward then he obviously can't play LT?

He was the starting RT for the 1st 5 games of his RS soph season till he went down with a knee injury. As a result of this season it also proves he can never play LT?

I don't have a clue who would be the more effective LT myself, but I have seen countless players at UT through the years become somewhat better each year they played there. Not every player is at his full potential the day they show up on campus.

Has BK been improving from year to year - it would appear so.

Has Richmond improved - most likely.

Do the coaches already know who will be the most effective LT for 2016 - looks like they're still trying to figure that out.

Does anyone on VN know - no way in he**.

Stop bringing logic to the discussion - that is not allowed. :)

Do the Vols need more choices other than Kendrick and Richmond @ LT, possibly so, because there is no real experience here at all......and that's usually not a good recipe......especially at LT

Debord said today he's pushing Chance Hall at RT and has been playing some inside also.

“I don’t look at as just competition at left tackle. I look at it as we’re going to play the five best guys. Brett is also moving over to right tackle and competing over there and Brett also works inside as well. We’re going to end up with the five best guys, whoever that is that’s who we’ll play,” DeBord said.

“The two guys that are rotating at left tackle right now are Drew and Brett. Drew never leaves there but Brett does. Brett can do that because of his knowledge, his experience and all that.”
