Kamara is the scarier of our star running backs

Hopefully I don't get too much hate for this. While I definitely think Kamara is much more quick in space, I'm not sold that he's a home run threat. Let me finish! The two long break-aways he had last year were against Bowling Green and UK. He got ran down in both scenarios, barely making it into the endzone against BG and getting tackled at the 1 by UK. I'm hoping he's been working on his speed as much as Hurd has been this off season. Let me reiterate lol I think he's an amazing RB and a nice guy (met him on Saturday night and I was so freakin star struck) and wouldn't trade him for the world.

Truly a pick your poison scenario. You want the mustang that'll straight up trample over your lifeless body? Or do you want both of your ankles broken on a single juke? Have fun deciding.

We have Kendrick vs Richmond. Let's do Hurd vs Kamara.

Chris Low

Kamara. I love watching Hurd, he's a great power RB but Kamara is dangerous and slick with the ball in his hand. Seems to me Hurd gets caught from behind a lot. Don't see that as often with Kamara.

Kamara is our Percy Harvin. He doesn't necessarily get the respect he deserves but he is usually one of the best players on the field and can do it all. RB, WR, and return man. I always said when we played the Tebow Turds that Harvin was the one guy that scared me the most. Kamara has that same effect. Tebow never really scared me because he was great at doing one thing and one thing only.

I recall the run you're referring to against BG, asked about it after the game he said he let up a bit because he thought he had them beat. As far as speed goes, Kamara has the nod IMO. You make good points though. There's very few guys that could run Kamara down but there's always room for improvement.

I'd bet money that even saban is already trying to figure out what to do about it, and yes I'm serious! Woooooo

Only thing saban is trying to figure out is where to put all his national championship trophies. You want to know what can stop this offense? Go watch the Florida game. Our top receiving threat was.....Josh Dobbs! Are you freaking kidding me!!???

Bring in Dormady, line Dobbs as WR.. Kamara and Hurd in back field... Hmmm

kamara is always a threat to score. hurd is much scarier late in the game when your team is gassed.

Quicker, faster, much more elusive, better in the open field, more capable of hitting the run play, and we do more to try to get him in space because of all that....I understand why.

Stats from last year:

Jalen Hurd 4.7 yards per carry on 277 carries.
Alvin Kamara 6.5 yards per carry on 107 carries.

Yes. And for those who would say Kamara got all his yards vs lesser competition.....he averaged more yards per carry vs the best teams we played as well.

This is it. However, if Hurd becomes that home run threat this year, they will fear Hurd more

Agree. It's really the only thing missing from Hurd's game. Unfortunately, after nearly 500 carries thus far in his career, it's starting to look like he just doesn't have it in him. That being said, I hope he busts 10 runs of 50+ yards this season.

Can't say one is better than the other. They're just...different...and both hugely talented.

I would rather NOT be hit by Hurd.

I would rather NOT have to catch Kamara from behind.

I would rather NOT have Hurd stiff-arm me.

I would rather NOT be standing between the goal line and a juking Kamara with 100,000 people watching to see if I lose my socks.

So yeah, just...different. But both awesome. Glad I don't have to pick one or the other. :)

Did anyone see where Tony Barnhart said LSU's Fourenette's backup Derrius Guice would start for any other SEC team. I had to hit rewind to make sure I heard what I heard. IMO real disrespect for Hurd, Chubb and Kamara.

Ok, Last year preseason, there was video of them practicing the triple option. I never saw it in a game but thought it was a brilliant idea. If they can get them on the field at the same time, that changes defensive schemes IMO..

It appears to me from last season that Kamara's talent is not his top end speed (which isn't bad), but in how quickly he's at his top end speed along with his cutting ability / balance. I'd be surprised if Kamara would be in the top 5 on the current Vol roster in a 100 meter dash, but he might be the fastest of all in a 20 meter dash.

I've been saying for a long time that we are going to miss Hurd a lot when he is done at UT. He has made several plays that have won us games that not many guys could have made. Think about 4th down screen pass against South Carolina and several runs early in his career where he had no blocking and still got a first down. I still think many Vols fans don't really realize how good he is.

They ran a series against Vandy where they faked the zone read then tossed the ball to Kamara in the flat. Then came back a few plays later and the same look only Dobbs faked the pass to Kamara and threw it over the head of the Vandy corner who had come up to tackle Kamara. I'm thinking it was to PW for the TD before the safety could get over to help. Really cool "quadruple" option series.

I asked a Gator fan at work and he said Hurd by a long shot. He recalled last year in the swamp that even when they got on him in the backfield he would drag guys for at least 3 yards.

If they would get their tail off the sidelines and get in there at linebacker, then they would rethink that statement. But yeah Kamara is more likely to take one 80 yards

Nice observation, yeah Kamara's acceleration is definitely much better. Part of that may be just because he's lighter and able to get there quicker, or maybe he's just got way more fast twitch muscles than Hurd. Based on Hurd's treadmill workouts I like to think that he'll come closer to being able to match Kamara's acceleration.
