Yes I applaud the coaches for that honesty but invol popped in here suggesting that meant these kids know their commitment is conditional. Seems like the staff told them exactly where they were before they committed to me and nothing has been mentioned about afterward

Do you actually think the kids going to come out and say "If I stink it up, I'll lose my spot?"

I'm new to the RF and I must admit that I find myself spending most of my time here now, mostly lurking, and I enjoy the points brought by everyone, but my take so far on this class is it was hyped up to be a huge class based on in state talent. Granted it sucks to see instate kids go elsewhere, but what if CBJ is content with the playmakers we have on the roster and this is more of a quality depth class, and he is hoping to use our results from this season to restock our playmakers the next one or two classes

I think the class of 2017 as a whole is a little weaker than previous classes. Clarity, not talking about our 2017 class. I'm talking about all the recruits in the class of 2017 across the country.

Yes, it does. Don't let members run over you but you have to let a lot of stuff go. Some members here are just flat out obnoxious.

Unfortunately the RF has turned that way lately too. Hopefully when the season get underway the curmudgeons will make their way back. I just hope theres not devastation in their wake.

Welcome!

That might squeak us in. At this point I'm just having to make peace with the fact that this class is not going to be as great as I thought it would. That's why I've been so crabby. I wish I'd never believed that to start with. I'm just going to roll with the fact this staff is goodbye at identifying and developing lower ranked players. That much, as I said earlier, is a absolute fact.

Make peace with your inner optimist. Don't be crabby yet. Too early.

I think this season will be an eye opener for everyone that has bashed our teams over the last decade.

I am gonna enjoy every second of it.

:hi:

Good post - spot on.

People need to remember that Dobbs was a project QB that sat 4th on the depth chart his freshman year. We see how that all worked out.

He was also a 4 star elite 11 QB. Why do people act like he was a project?

The kid was a good prospect that has surpassed his rating.

Yeah, if I recall he had a pretty decent offer list. I also thought some schools may have not come after him as they thought he was set on wanting to play football and baseball at ASU.

2016 was also weak.

I think 2017 is top heavy. The top 50-75 players are really good. But beyond that I don't think there is much of a difference between the average 4 star and 3 star.

I think 2018 will be a much better class in terms of depth and top line talent.

I don't think any commits spots are safe. They all are conditional to some extent.

Agreed

Where we Differ is what the kids are told. IMO they are told keep their nose clean and on top of their academics with those being the only conditions to their commitment

The way this latest commitment of Lewis went down proves that if the coaches were going to take a conditional commitment why not take his commitment sooner? I mean they told him what he needed to improve on. They told him they needed to evaluate more QBs. Why not take his commitment with those conditions sooner?

I am actually glad you pulled my sting on this Because this so much shows a clear level of the conditions that went into this kid getting an offer with no mention of what he has to do next to keep his offer.

This kid is actively recruiting for on on twitter while we have fans suggesting he was only taken because of good news we got from a 2018QB(invol how did that turn out?) and the conditions he must follow to stay committed.

Some of you guys will do anything to think all this recruiting thing is is sunshine and ice tea without any "games" being played. I choose to believe recruiting is a "dirty" game where lies are told all the time to achieve a goal and that doesn't change the fact that I wouldn't trade cbj for anyone right now

Good post Lynx.

Except both of you have violated the VN Summer of Hysteria and Despair basic tenets:
1. No well thought out reasonable and somewhat realistic/optimistic posts.
2. Under no circumstance whatsoever are you to quote a post that clearly violates tenet #1 with a post that would also be a definite violation of said tenet.

With that being said, I heartily applaude both of the aforementioned posts and their authors.

:)

Because the coaches obviously see something in them and think they could potentially help us.

I've said this before, but I think the coaches take commits from lower rated guys early on and tell them they have to improve in certain areas during their senior seasons in order for the offer to still stand. If the player does not improve in those areas, then the coaches reserve the right to move on.

I think this keeps the lower rated guys working their butts off hoping to keep their spot. Which ends up making them a better player.

Also it keeps us from being left with nothing if we miss on some big targets that don't announce until February. Butch always has a plan. And another plan in case that plan doesn't work out.

I think this is where Dooley failed. If we missed on a couple big targets on signing day, he didn't have anybody ready to fill that spot.

That's what I think anyways.

I agree and also think that's totally reasonable to expect a level of consistency or improvement as a stipulation for a scholarship.

Reasonable doesn't sit well with many agendas currently being repeatedly posted here...

Wow - this "Ignore" feature is really cool. I just missed 4 posts of misery right before Doc's.

August is nearly here. NFL has gone back to work. My golf game is good. Things are looking up even with the sky is falling predictions on recruiting.

We must have similar ignore lists :)
