How was holiday world? Planning to take my family there tomorrow actually

The Voyage is a biatch. Can't do the coaster anymore. Rode it early the last time we went, and was sick the rest of the day. Sucks getting old.

Have fun!

Luke Del Rio walked on at bama in 2013 and redshirted.

He transferred to Oregon state and played a little in 2014.

Transfered again to Florida and sat out 2015.

How many years does he have left?

Expected news, but Peyton is officially cleared by the NFL on the HGH allegations.

Had a very busy....wonderful weekend that in no way, shape or form had anything to do with Vols recruiting, Family reunion Saturday. I have a huge family and I got to visit with family I haven't gotten to see in years. Great time had by all. Got up early Sunday morning and took my wife and kids to Holiday World. Spent 10-11 hours enjoying my family, riding rides and playing in the water. Busy, busy weekend that I would not change for anything.

Imagine my surprise when I got up this morning to see that UT football had not shut down while I was away.

Take some time away folks. Enjoy your friends and family. UT football will still be here later for you to bit** and moan about. Summer is winding down way too quickly. Pro and Con of UT football. Pro....it's UT football. Con....it's time not spent (exclusively) with the ones you love. Spend that time with them now, while you can, It will be gone before you know it.

:hi:

So you went to a biker rally?

Not a surprising verdict to me. I saw Adam Schefter tweeted this out earlier today. I was shocked at reading all the responses from people.

Two things I learned from those comments:

1) Most people don't believe that he never used HGH

2) It's so easy to see how lazy reporting and headline reading can be damaging. There were tons of people saying things like "yeah but he did sexually assault a woman".... That's an unbelievable misinterpretation of what actually happened. It made me think about how many folks just believe things they want to believe. And what a lot of people want is to see celebrities they don't like screw up so they can trash them forever.

It makes me sad, because for no real fault of his own, Peyton's reputation will always be scarred in many people's eyes. And no presentation of facts or arguments will ever change their minds. They found the narrative they were always looking for and now they will cling to it forever.

It's a shame, but I guess it is what it is.

I for one, couldn't be prouder of how Peyton has represented this university since he left us.

Good posts, Ron Swanson and LynxVol.

We're going to flip half the commit list, so there's no point griping about who should or shouldn't be on there right now. We're in a good position to land at least half of our top targets, and that will be a solid class. My main concern is QB. It would be a coup to land EJones, but FNL went well, and if he announces this summer, OSU has the momentum. We could always look to transfers or JUCO, if we need to do that.

If Jones picks OSU anytime soon, we have like 18 months to find another take before the 2018 class is signing.

Then why take them in the first played?
I think that's what some don't understand.

True, but fans can't do anything about it. That's CBJ's strategy and, no doubt, it has pissed some people off, but that's how he recruits. Not agreeing with it won't change it.

Because the coaches obviously see something in them and think they could potentially help us.

I've said this before, but I think the coaches take commits from lower rated guys early on and tell them they have to improve in certain areas during their senior seasons in order for the offer to still stand. If the player does not improve in those areas, then the coaches reserve the right to move on.

I think this keeps the lower rated guys working their butts off hoping to keep their spot. Which ends up making them a better player.

Also it keeps us from being left with nothing if we miss on some big targets that don't announce until February. Butch always has a plan. And another plan in case that plan doesn't work out.

I think this is where Dooley failed. If we missed on a couple big targets on signing day, he didn't have anybody ready to fill that spot.

That's what I think anyways.

Flip an elite QB from another school? Or take another project and focus on landing an elite QB for 2019?

Jones has said he'll announce before school starts. He's visited both schools, so no reason to believe he won't.

It was the last ride I rode before leaving and driving 2 1/2 hours home. I'm 52 and I'll have to disagree with you. Line was relatively short, waited maybe 15 mins to get on. Sat almost in the front...second car back. The experience was awesome. Adrenaline was pumping....which helped make the drive home after all those hours in the sun a lot easier.

I also just think Butch is never going to allow us to have a "bad class". We may not always end up with a top 5, or even top 10 class. A lot has to go right to reach that point every year, and recruiting is just a competitive game. But I think we'll always be in that top 15 range at worst. If you have one or two top 5 classes thrown in every couple of years, we are going to be in serious business every season on the football field.

Jones and Lawrence won't be the only quality QBs in 2018. We miss on both, turning your attention to 2019 might be a bit quick.

Depends how you look at it. I mean we could be ranked 21st on NSD and the folks saying wait, or trust the evals will declare it a great haul. Underrated, ESPN just hates us, or these guys were always top of the board. Of course others will say it's all down hill from here.

lol....I hadn't thought of that. I guess in retrospect it was.

On the sad side of things. It does wake you up to how fast time flies. Makes you wonder how many of those faces will not be there for the next one.

Enjoy life while you can folks. Tn football, while a part of it, is an insignificant part of it. TN football recruiting.....if you are having trouble dealing with it....set it aside. It isn't worth it, if it makes you feel that way. I enjoy the intricacies of recruiting, but since I know i have absolutely nothing to do with the end results, I just don't let myself get so wrapped up into it to let it upset me. I'll still watch my Vols come this fall, regardless of who is put on the field, and I'll still be cheering as loud as ever.

True. But it also doesn't change the fact that the "trust the coaching staff" side has evidence on its side. The staff has yet to let us down once on the recruiting trail. Even with lower rated guys.

This is not the same as the "defend Dooley at all cost" crowd that existed on this board a few years ago.

Because that is how Butch Jones recruits. He has literally done the same thing the last 3 years. This way, he doesn't go after the 5 star, the 5 star picks the other school, and then we are left without a plan. I am also venturing to guess that we won't drop as many as some think. Our staff trusts their evaluations.

I agree. I like to follow it because I'm fascinated with team building. I also like to know about the freshmen class and some of their stories and background. It enriches my experience when I'm watching the games.

I don't follow it so I can obsess over every recruit and where we are in the rankings. I might do that in February. But in July? Come on. It's just pointless.

Let's also not forget than an evaluation is an ongoing process. Every single year we sign multiple 3 star players. We also drop multiple 3 stars and even some 4 stars. You take guys that you think could help your football team, continue to recruit and yes, evaluate your recruits, and then sign a class. Pretty simple really.

Like any program it's going to be a mixed bag of 3-5* guys. Some programs just get more of the 4-5* than others. Those teams are usually the ones winning at least in the SEC. We did sign a bunch of them in 2014 & 2015. Partly why we are expected to be a contender this year. There is some very good coaching being done. I'm actually pretty pleased with it. My expectation for us this year is I believe very reasonable. I also feel a lot of the "proven evaluations" talk is a bit early. Yes, We've had some 3* talent come in and play and play well. It happens everywhere. Who are the stars? For the most part kids who came in as stars. Is that evaluations? Maybe. Or maybe it's just signing about 65 guys in 2 classes with enough 4-5* talent to level the playing field. We were 14th last year. My concern is another in that 14-20 range and we are back playing catch up again.

IMO this staff has made the improvement and it's clear enough we shouldn't be sitting here with 20+ 3* commitments, even in July.
