This is great...let everyone continue to insult our boys and not recognize them for the talent they have. We will play with a chip, and show them who is all-SEC on the field.

I'm over the instate guys. We had an opportunity to have an incredible class based off them alone. Fact is we recruit national. Can still have a great class. But let's not sugar coat this, we have work to do in securing our borders. Butch has got to work on relationships with coaches instate. I know he held a coaches clinic for HS coaches in Tennessee last year. Did he do that again?

So now Butch has to work on relationships with coaches instate? Has he not been doing that for the past 3 years?

I ask this only out of a small amount of concern as I thought he had been doing a pretty good job at this already. And you also have a kid in HS ball so you have more inside info into that than I do.

He has but obviously there's more work to do.

Possibly, but I think that isn't as big of a concern now as how off the path we have been over the past decade.

Hopefully Butch continues to repair those relationships. Need them now more than ever with how instate talent is increasing.

I have several friends that coach here. They all had great things to say about that camp last year. Need to continue things like that.

Have they said anything in regards to the relationship UT is building with HS coaches across the state? Are they getting better or is there still a lot of work to be done?

Definitely better. My concern is (and I have not heard this) he will become complacent with those relationships that he worked so hard to build early. With all these satellite camps invading Middle Tennessee, we need him to step it up.

Is there a team out there that has more against them than UT?! My god, I agree with Aesius whereas other programs have media and others in high positions in their camp, we have the exact opposite. And why the hell are we not at this camp?! I thought Buck and Butch had a good relationship no?

Completely agree. I'm not a huge fan of these satellite camps myself. But I see how this helps kids get more time with coaches to learn a thing or two. Still, it just puts even more stress into the job of coaching. More moving parts to have to look out for which we know the NCAA doesn't do a very good job at anyway.

Not a fan of it for power 5 teams. I think it should be a mid major type deal only. It gets to point of wasting resources. TN already had two camps in mid state. They have seen what they need to but then you have all your rivals ganging together for a big camp. We should have sent one guy for show. It's just a recruiting game

Satellite camps are going to quickly turn into AAU-style corruption IMO. Handlers are going to be even more prominent and act as gatekeepers for top talent

This is from Wiki, and yes I know that's not always a very reliable source, but it was the first thing I found just now.

It also runs public health advertising campaigns, and organizes projects such as the Relay For Life and the Great American Smokeout. It operates a series of thrift stores to raise money for its operations. The ACS participates in the Hopkins 4K for Cancer, a 4000-mile bike ride from Baltimore to San Francisco to raise money for the society's Hope Lodge.[12][13]

The society’s allocation of funds for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2010, lists 72% of funds for Program Services (Patient Support 28%, Research 16%, Prevention 16%, Detection and Treatment 12%). The remaining 28% are allocated for supporting services (Fundraising 21%, and Management, General administration 7%).[14] This meets the Better Business Bureau's Standards for Charity Accountability: Standard 8 (Program Service Expense Ratio) of at least 65% of total expenses spent on program activities.[15]

In 2012 the American Cancer Society raised $934 million and spent $943 million prompting a national consolidation and cost-cutting reorganization.[8]

John R. Seffrin, former CEO of the American Cancer Society, received $2,401,112 salary/compensation from the charity for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.[15] This is the second most money given by any charity to the head of that charity, according to Charity Watch. The money included $1.5 million in a retention benefit approved in 2001, “to preserve management stability.”[16] Mr. Seffrin's compensation for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2012 was $832,355.[17]

The Better Business Bureau lists American Cancer Society as an accredited charity meeting all of its Standards for Charity Accountability as of January 2012.[15] Charity Navigator rates the society two of four stars for fiscal year 2011.[20] According to Charity Navigator the society is directed to "eliminating cancer" and destroying it.[3] Charity Watch rates American Cancer Society a "C", stating that the Society devotes 40% of its annual expenditures to administration, fundraising, etc., with the other 60% going to fund programs.[16]

Having worked at a place similar. Most are a way to get money into the pockets of the head honchos. The place I worked was in Hendersonville. The president, Wellington Russell Meade showed up 1-2 times a week on average for 2 hours a day and drew a salary of $400K. When he was there he was a miserable human being that bullied employees. He called me an idiot and I came across the desk at him. Not sure how I didn't get fired.

The Vice President was a waste of time as well, this miserable human would make no effort to make any decisions on his own and just rode his $250K salary to the bank. I told him he was a worthless piece of ... and again wonder how I didn't get fired.

Thankfully the place closed it's doors. Most of the other people that worked there were there because they wanted to help those that were in need but the two crap piles were there only for the money.

all that was just crap and amazing the lack of respect Berry, Daniel, and Hurd have gotten on that BS list.... how could anyone agree with that.... Chubb is great, but hasn't run a down since the injury but he is considered basically the best? Guess someone knows something the rest of the country doesn't... does he now have a bionic knee? SMH-- Daniel should have been a lock at first team... Berry, just SMH...

Could someone elaborate more about this "camp" we are apparently missing? I have scrolled back a bunch of pages and have not found where the specifics have been listed.

thanks

:detective:

I couldn't read it either. Here's the key stats:
Kirk as a freshman last year:
19.3 average on 20 returns with 0 TDs

Berry as a sophomore last year:
38.3 average on 21 returns with 3 TDs

Just for kicks, Berry as a freshman in 2014:
29.5 average on 14 returns with 0 TDs

Basically, Kirk was really good as a freshman receiver last year so the writers just picked him. They knew the name but didn't know he wasn't a very good return man. It's embarrassing for them that it's their full time job and they can't follow a 14 team league any better than that.

How about this

@MikeGarafolo: During talks w Eric Berry, Chiefs proposed he pay for a disability policy that named the club as beneficiary, sources say. Later backed off.

Despite having a disappointing recruiting season so far, we still have a very legitimate shot at signing the #1 player* in four different states (Smith, Gibbs, Akers, Foster). That's something to be positive and excited about imo.

Also an outside shot with Wills?

*Depending on what rankings you look at

I think Higgins is still on the table as well.

Our limited in-state success with '17 prospects is concerning - to an extent. It's only really concerning if we cannot replace them with similar level talents from other states.

Fact is, some didn't actually grow up in Tennessee, and those that did saw a program that wasn't very competitive. I'm sure there is a ton of negative recruiting going on now. If UT takes care of business on the field this year (win the East), then I think that will be a much more effective sales pitch than any camp or clinic.
