'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Ironically, their 1 National Title (1981) is more than a little tainted because a Clemson booster living in Knoxville tried to buy two highly touted recruits from Knoxville (Terry Minor and James Cofer from the old Rule High School) at the time. They were under fire over it most of the 1981 season. Head Coach Danny Ford threatened to not take the field for their final game of the season (broadcast on ABC) if ABC aired an interview with Minor and Cofer before the game. Between Charley Pell and Danny Ford, they have an incredible history of corruption. I doubt anything has changed. They are not capable of winning unless they cheat.

Bring up the subject of Terry Minor and James Cofer from Knoxville sometime to a Clemson fan. Most of them will play dumb and pretend it didn't happen while some of them are genuinely ignorant of it. Their athletic department has swept it under the rug and tried to keep it there but it was why they went on probation in the '80s and it dogged Ford his entire career.
Intresting post. Ive never heard that story. Thanks for posting.

Clemson is a top 5 team, and closer to #1 than 5, IMO.

I fully expect them to make the playoffs and I think a matchup with them would be exceptionally interesting, especially given the recruiting battles recently

They were a top 5 team last year. Doesn't guarantee anything for this season.

In fact if we use the last 2 years as a sample, it's highly unlikely a team makes the playoffs 2 years in a row. So far only Alabama has done it.

It's 100% true. Just Google "Terry Minor and James Cofer". There are many links which detail that scandal very well. Both Minor and Cofer tried to get out of their Letters of Intent and come to Tennessee after admitting that they had been paid by Clemson but Johnny Majors was a man of integrity and considered them damaged goods and wouldn't take them.

Clemson has a long history of cheating in our state.

Yeah, I guess... He's easy to forget about. I don't consider him an elite prospect. He's not much of a loss. How about another?

Not Elite? Hes a damn good WR and better than any other WR we bring in this year outside of Tee if he does stay home.

If he was committed to UT he would be elite I am sure...

I have seen him play in person and will respectfully disagree. He is a dime a dozen WR who we should have no trouble bringing in on an annual basis. I don't consider him elite at all.

Easy to forget about? Kid is a stud. I really wish we got him. I feel like too often recruits aren't elite if they aren't committed to us. I would gladly take Amari. And I wish he would have stayed home.

He's not at all elite... and he is not much of a loss. We have 3 WR's on this team now who are better than he is.

I know people will say, "If he was committed to Tennessee you would think of him as elite." .... but I have seen him play in person (not just handpicked hi-light videos) and I do not. JMO. :hi:

I do, however, think Richardson is a big loss... maybe we can mitigate that with Chandler? But also keep in mind that they tried like hell to get in on Maleik Gray but could not even make his top 3.

247 has Clemson near or at the top for Tee Higgins, JaCoby Stevens, Trey Smith, Cordarian Richardson, and Amari Rodgers.

... and they will get Richardson and Rodgers. We will get Higgins and Smith. Stevens will go to LSU, UGA or Alabama.

Also, Clemson tried forever to get in on Maleik Gray but never could. It's not good that we lost Richardson but that is Memphis. I am indifferent to Rodgers and if he wasn't a legacy, I think everyone else would be as well.

You're talking about Clemson in regards to Gray???

Word is we didn't try very hard for Richardson anyway.

I've was at the Climpson USC fight and to a couple of other games at Climpson...wearing orange of course. Climpson is a quaint little campus likened to OM in some rolling hills. The atmosphere is boring at games and unless you hunt there is less than nothing to do in terms of entertainment unless you road trip to Greenvile SC or Atlanta, both of which are too far to drive back to campus from after a night out. That leaves the local option of a night out in the few dives in Anderson. Not much difference in Anderson and let's say Cleveland or Pulaski TN., no offense but you get the picture.

Yep, ironic the guys that brought down Clemson, never played for them. CU booster and Knoxville resident Buck Breazeal (what is it with perceived shady boosters named Buck?) was at the heart of the scandal.

CU cheating goes deep, IPTAY is still alive and well today. They ARE AU with a lake in all facets of college football.

I like Fant better...did before...prove I'm lying. :yu:

If we end up with Fant, Smith, Jackson, Gray, Higgins, Chandler, and Bumphus then I'd proclaim that Butch definitely gets an A for the instate recruiting haul for this year.

I actually think Dabo has reached a point where he no longer "needs" to cheat but I feel pretty confident he cheated to get to this point. Top heavy recruiting a few years back similar to what Ole Miss has been doing.

Everyone starts scratching their head and saying "How is Ole Miss/Clemson doing this?" Well, the most obvious answer is usually the right answer. They pay.

Who's that in the pic?
