Butch Jones in the 4th quarter

CBJ appears to be a better coach when he is losing in the 4th qt. He has shown to be full throttle coming from behind. He definitely let up off the steam against FL and OK. We will see if he learned his lesson. Northwestern was weak and not on the same level as TN so I can't gauge off that game.

In the 25 years from 1989 to 2004, Tennessee was 156-40. Not shabby. I started at UT in 1991 and have been following closely since. It's amazing how similar the "Butch was too conservative" talk is to nearly every one of the <7pt losses during the "glory years."

Guys I hope he goes away from being ultra conservative but I just never seen him change. I honestly would rather play from behind then have a lead.

<Shaking head face in palms> Playing from behind rather than having a lead when the clock runs out is called an official loss. Happy to have helped.

Good grief. In those games, the offense pretty much continued to run the same plays that had been working. If those were conservative then the entire game was conservative.

In reality, if the play calling had been changed to be whatever the "coaches on here" felt it should have been and the play failed (e.g. fumble, interception, didn't work, etc.), those who are complaining would still be complaining that the play calling changed from something that was working to something else. Truth is some of you just like to complain and find fault.

Shoop...buTch, I need to tell you and DeBord something you badly need to learn.

buTch...OK Shoop, fire away.

Shoop...This is the brutal SEC and against any SEC team and all others for that matter...Never, and I mean NEVER take your foot off the gas until the game is over with no time on the clock!!!

If that means getting the WIN by 70 points then keep playing your O to score on every possesion.

At the level we want to be and to WIN Championships you play aggressive every single minute to try your best to score.

If you learn this and do it in every game then you'll be here at Tennessee as long as you want to be here.

buTch...I'd finally figured that out but thanks Shoop, it's good to hear things from other coaches that you seriously respect.

Against the 13th ranked team in the country in our bowl game I think buTch showed us that he's learned his lessons on that issue.

If not, a lynch mob may come out of the stands after the floriDUHHH game this year.

Team 120, playing to WIN every minute of every game...VFL...GBO!!!

First off I really do love Butch Jones but why is he so conservative in the 4th quarter? His philosophy is to run up the middle every play and then play with a lead and I honestly didn't see him really learn his lesson either last year. I mean we were lucky as hell against Georgia that our punter bailed us out with that coffin kick after Butch again decided to run the ball every single play and then punt. I guess I just envision us being up 10 in the fourth against Florida and Butch doing the same old things.

So do you think he changes his philosophy and pulls a Steve Spurrier this year or goes Johnny Majors and sits on big leads again this year?

First I've heard of this.

With our defense CBJ can look at it 1 of 2 ways:

1) With our defense we can go balls out on Offense and score lots and lots of points and have a special year.

2) With our defense we can play play conservative on Offense and have a special year.

I'm glad he turned the team over to the Captains, they can't wait to exploit other teams in all aspects of the game(Offense with JD and AK, Defense JRM and CS, and Special teams Cam is pulling double duty along with AK.

It is already a special year.

Go Vols!

You can't teach and old dog new tricks. He still believes it is a process. Our only hope is that his recruiting has out performed his game management.

BJ is writing your name on a piece of paper and putting it in his back pocket as we speak.

I really hope and pray that Butch Jones doesn't read through our nonsensical threads on this site. In fact, I will hope and pray he doesn't even get on VolNation.....it just wouldn't be healthy.....
