HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Awesome finale, great season. Sucks having to wait now. I wish we could have a "scenes from next season" already.

The show has done a piss poor job of preparing non book readers for this...they have shown none of the clues that are in the books from the very beginning.

I'm not a book reader and I'm fine with it. It's not like anyone can really keep up with the show without reading up on it anyway. There's way too many houses and characters and regions to keep track of. I've probably watched an equal amount of videos like "lore of Westeros" as I have actual HBO episodes. That's what I love about this show, it completely sucks you in.

It's what I love about the STORY. One of the best literary works of any genre IMO. GRRM is a complete weirdo bunghole, but the man is a brilliant writer.

I read the various Wikis quite a bit. It has honestly saved me from having to rewatch the entire series. I was still relatively clueless on who's who and what house is what (outside of the main ones) until about season 4, to be honest.

The scope of the world created in the books and partially in the show is what makes it incredible at least in my opinion. You meet tons of interesting characters. A lot of my favorites don't even appear in the show. All of them seemingly telling different stories that you realize are all connected. If you have the time read the books.

For those that haven't read them books...From the first book in the series Ned is tortured by dreams of that ToJ scene, and the clues are obvious, then you get Danys dreams that have big clues, and finally the scene in the House of the Undying. They left out the huge clue that pointed to R+L=J from that scene in the show. That chapter in the book is what sealed it in my mind, but I have always wondered if it was just a giant red herring. So now I don't have to wonder anymore. :) And I'm glad it wasn't a red herring, that would have been horrible writing.

Great post..show watchers only miss out on that. I feel the same way about some characters being left out, but I understand why they have to be in most cases. The thing that bugs me is when the show writers botch(which is pretty rare thankfully) a character like Euron.

The extended opening scene in King's Landing might be my favorite scene in the series. The music was haunting and the cinematography was incredible, especially the shots of the burning sept from the Red Keep.

You know an episode is jam-packed when the reveal of the quintessential ASOIAF theory is the most boring part of the episode.

Once I realized this the series became infinitely more enjoyable to me. I read more closely the second time I went through the books than I did the first, and it was extremely rewarding. For example, the Brienne story in AFFC that first-time readers complain about is some of the best world-building in the entire series. There's a reason the old bastard takes so long to write them.

The main problem the show encounters is that it's impossible to portray that stuff is happening beyond what the main characters experience due to time constraints and whatnot. In the books even throwaway lines are meaningful as they indicate that something else is going on, really giving color to the world. That's why they're so enjoyable.

So are we left with three factions now? You have Jon Snow and the Stark supporters, Cersei and the families loyal to the Lannisters, and the Dorne/Tyrell alliance backing Daenerys. Am I forgetting someone? And after those three finish with each other, the winner(s) get the WWs?

Yes. It seems to be setting up for Dany vs Cersei and Starks vs Whitewalkers.

The Starks will not fight against Dany..If anything they will join together. The story is not really, nor ever really has been The Game of Thrones..It is The Song of Ice and Fire.

Ok, so are we to assume that Ned knocked up his sister?

lol i can understand how a non book reader could get confused and not grasp the exact details about whats going on there, but I still don't see how in the world you came up with this assumption. for starters it makes absolute zero sense in the context of the scene.
i mean hell, you watched season 1 correct? How could you believe for one moment that the great Ned "honorable-to-a-fault" Stark would take part in an incestuous relationship with his sister?

Have to say Lyanna Mormont just became one of my favorite characters

she's awesome.

Jamie's going to kill the **** out of Cersei. I'm no insider but it should be obvious.

I'm looking so forward to it. Cersei is the ******n worst.

RIP Margery

she will be missed.

lost a lot of people tonight.

Great, GREAT ****ing episode.

-First 25 minutes were so intense, haunting, and shocking. the score was great. the effects were great. while i knew Cersei had a plan regarding the wildfyre, I was not expecting it to play out like that. and to take out so many characters just like that? damn.
-I'm so glad we got a sort of adaptation of the DWD epilogue. Wasn't completely similar, or as haunting, but it was still well done. At least in this case, we actually get to see Pycelle die.
-Cersei is the worst. I can't wait for her to die. Some might think I'm in the wrong, but I was pulling for Lancel to make it to the candles in time...
-Lyanna Mormont rules. Would pull for her to be Queen over Dany.
-Scenes with Dany (both with Daario and Tyrion) were very well done. quite touching in a manner of both. I'm quite surprised how much I like show Daario over book Daario.
-Vary's transportation skills might just be better than Littlefinger's.
-Walder Frey got Scott Tenorman'ed, and it was awesome. SO GLAD they fit the Frey pies into the show!! RIHFF:Rest in HELL Frey ****ers!!
-Last, but not least, official R+L=J confirmation!!! I mean, we all knew wit, but it didn't make it any less awesome. I'm quite glad they didn't make it dumb and have it end up being twins (Jon and Meera).

Only disappointment is that we will have to wait until next season for more.

Also, would have loved to have had me some Hound tonight as well.

I just wish they had let a dancing fat man serve the Frey pies. I love that part of the books.

Just watched the after show Inside the episode with Benioff and Weiss...They were not so subtly hinting that Jon is in deep doodoo. They were talking about how they wanted the scene to hearken back to the scene where they made Robb king in the north. They said it should be worrisome for Jon how it did not go so well for the first king in the north. And that there was a lot of friction between him and Sansa under the surface still....I'm not liking where they were pointing at all.
