Was listening to an interview with an Athlon Sports writer who was explaining their thought process in putting so many Vols in their All-SEC team. He said other schools in the conference are recruiting as well or better than UT, but they aren't developing that talent as well as Butch is. He mentioned A&M, UGA and Auburn. He had very high praise for the player development at UT. If you think about it, most of our best players were nowhere near five-star recruits yet they are playing like it.

As I consider the commitments today, I think that's part of the difference for us. We have a program that can truly develop these guys. We will see.

All true. I also think Butch offers and accepts commitments from guys before their senior seasons on a conditional level. He and the staff probably explain that they like their film and like their upside, and that they have commitable offers, but they have to ball out/continue improving as seniors in high school to keep their offers.

That allows Butch to fill the class relatively early and focus on concentrating on his top targets (who are guaranteed ballers), and if the early commits don't pan out or have bad senior seasons, he can cut them and they'll know why. It's also good because I don't think he's taking commitments from players the staff isn't impressed by on some level. So there's a very good chance that a lot of these guys will either rise in the rankings or are already great fits from a talent standpoint and are just underrated.

The way I look at this. Most of this kids offer list will blow up and we may end up fighting to keep some. Some will be replaced by better players. We all have seen it before. SO , how about those who can do nothing but complain wait until the 2017 is signed. Of course some are never happy.

This is a very good explanation. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I feel like it is. It would also explain why so many of our recruits DO get that bump during their senior year. A combination of great evaluations and young men wanting to keep their hard earned scholarship.

Not sure I buy the idea these kids line up to commit early if their spot has all sorts of conditions tied to it beyond the reasonable grades, stay out of trouble stuff. I personally think it's just a lame excuse to condone a coach making room when need be. JMO

If I recall, Austin Smith and Quay Picou were 3 star commits at OCD that were out of nowhere. A year later, they are going to be contributors on a great defense and very good prospects. Just trust the staff.

Those still questioning every single take and overall talent evaluation of this stuff just have their minds made up on that topic.
