Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Please: Muffet McGraw can coach CIRCLES around Dawn Staley. Staley has never won ANYTHING--and her team craps out every time it plays UConn. McGraw has beaten UConn a number of times--and recently (though not in a title game, I'm afraid). Staley is more of a recruiter than a coach, IMO.

I have a feeling that Steffany White will prove to be a very good coach that will give the Lady Vols and other teams a run for their money. Maybe not this year but in the upcoming years. If she and her staff can recruit like McCalley does at Duke, that has similar academic requirements as Vandy, and coach as she does with the fever, Vandy will be more than competitive. Someone in Vandy's athletic department has decided to be real serious about women's basketball. I am glad to see that type of committment to WCBB. I feel that very quickly we will need to make the same decision, unless we feel happy with a lot of elite eights and think that is as far as we need to go. It all gets down to is, can we put a team on the floor that can be coached into the final four? That certainly should be our goal.

We all are entitled to our own opinions. You provided yours & I provided mine. Some will agree with you. Some will agree with me. That's what opinions are about. Nice to discuss this subject matter anyhow. Thanks!

McGraw is the 2nd best coach in college and its not close. Geno is way ahead of her unfortunately. There isn't any hope for the rest of us until he retires.

Mulkey has two titles to McGraw's one. Both more recent. If McGraw is #2, Mulkey is a close #3.

Per Bret McCormick Erin DeGrate 6'5" post player is transferring from Louisville. Tennessee recruited her and I think we were a finalist. Wonder if there's still mutual interest? She's 6'5" and is very strong in the paint. I think Louisville recruited over her. I get the idea that Walz think the idea of becoming the next UConn is just signing top recruits, but only 5 players can take the floor at one time. I think Baylor, Maryland and Louisville have over recruited the last couple of seasons and I wouldn't be surprised to see more transfers from these three schools in the next few seasons. Chemistry, work ethic and coaching are all major factors besides signing top recruits. Erin DeGrate is wearing #1 in this clip.

My my my...such inaccuracy in this post. First off let me say that I am a fair guy & I will agree with you on one thing; Muffett is a very good x's & o's coach that is very good at what she does, but to suggest Dawn has never won anything is pure blasphemy. Maybe you've been living under a rock but in the past 3 years Dawn has a stellar 45-3 record in the SEC, won the regular season 3 straight times & back to back SEC tourney titles.

That's nothing?

What you are suggesting is laughable. Like I mentioned to one of you posters before, be careful how you trash Dawn like the woman isn't a winner. If you haven't yet realized, her upcoming 2016 team will be better than the 1 that just swept the SEC 19-0 this past season, & unless the lady vols or another team steps up she will likely win it again, & again. That's success any way you slice it.

Players are transferring in because they wanna play for Dawn but more importantly because they want to win. Dawn has only faced Geno twice. The first time we lost by 25 points & the 2nd time we lost by 12 (holding UConn to 66 points its lowest point total in years). Dawn hasn't faced Geno nearly as many times as Muffett has & she's getting better each time. I will tell you this, IF Dawn stays at SC as long as Muffett has been at ND she will win more than 1 national title that's for sure. I am in no way trying to rub you or other lady vol fans the wrong way just don't make absurd statements about coach Staley because she deserves better.

You just come off as a bitter disappointed lady vol fan.

There may have been some decent players came thru the South Carolina program but none of those players resulted in SEC or national title contending teams. It wasn't until Dawn Staley got there in which that culture changed into a regularly contending team year in & out.

That's what you call a pure coach. After Geno, Staley is the 2nd best women's college coach in my opinion. You can't replace her coaching & that's why more & more talented players are signing there & wanting to play for South Carolina. They see the difference she makes.

So, yes Staley did start the fire. The fire of winning & becoming regular SEC & national title contenders. That type of fire wasn't there before Staley.

Great post. I mostly agree with this post. SC has had decent players come through the program and has had pretty decent history in the late 70s and 80s but we were always a marginal program. It took Dawn coming here to really stoke that fire of potential... It took her name, her brand, her relative youth and relatability to make SC a destination that recruits would want to come to. Hiring Dawn Staley was one of the best hires in SC athletic history and she hasn't even won a title yet, just from how much she has changed this program. SC fans are hyped about basketball season now, men and women's. Attendance is stellar. She's recruiting nationally. People know who we are now.. all because of Dawn. Not our past history.

As for coaches.. Geno is far and away the best. I think right now Muffett is a better coach, she's a better X's and O's coach and her staff recruits better than ours (the ND WBB brand is nationally strong, SC WBB isn't there yet but getting close). Dawn isn't a bad X's and O's coach but I think she's still trying to figure out her coaching style and how she wants her teams to play. Muffett has that figured out. Mulkey may have won more than Dawn so far but I'm not convinced she's a better coach, IMO she's a product of supreme talent along with good coaching. Dawn would CRUSH IT in Texas. She's 4-5 states away now and has SC in great position with several 2017/18/19 Texas recruits.

Another poster mentioned Mitchell as the recruit that spring boarded SC... and while I agree partially, her athletic abilities made SC a contender. I actually think it was Aleighsa Welch that really pushed SC to the next level. A top 100 player deciding to come to SC was BIG. Welch (a SC product) lead to SC landing Mitchell (a NC product) which lead to SC getting Coates (SC product) which then lead to Wilson. During those years, Dawn built the SC brand and win totals that's now allowing us to recruit nationally... landing players like Tyasha Harris and recruiting players like Evina Westbrook, Chennedy Carter etc..

If she is looking for a lot of playing time (which she didn't get much of last year and wouldn't have got any playing time moving forward with the players ahead of her and the players coming in.) I think she lands at Texas A&M

A true big girl who can run the floor. She could break into a starting five anywhere. What you can't see from the vid is if she tires out or can run all day. If she can stay that pace and plays that big, what a pickup.

Regarding Texas A&M you could right since she is from the state of Texas, but coming out of high school I don't think they were a finalist. Tennessee was one of her finalist.

Should have signed Emily Shubert, who is going to be a 4 time All American and MVP for the dookies.

mark it down... lol

No sir/mam that's not the case. Most times I come here to get the latest scoop on recruits as some of you are very informative in the wbb world, & I've liked many posts including a few of yours. I don't come here to stick my chest out & boast about our recent success as we haven't done much of anything compared to the lady vols. I just don't like posters who act like Dawn isn't accomplishing things now at a school that used to be a doormat in the SEC just a few short years ago. She hasn't had the luxury of the lady vols who have had so many great players come through your program over the years. Up until this upcoming season she hasn't had not 1 McDonald's AA guard out of high school. She's been making due with good but not great players & the better talent she's getting the more success she's been having. Let's not forget that Pat wasn't the greatest offensive mind either but she won time & time again on hard work, defense & rebounding. Dawn has said a number of times that she idolized Pat & wanted to structure a program in a similar way. We are seeing that take place before our very eyes.

I hope that we can coexist & talk wbb news as I am a big fan of women's basketball. I also hope that you & other lady vol fans that read this post have a great weekend :)

You're right about that. She may very well wind up there at A&M. I heard Jatari White is visiting Texas this weekend so they may be out of the picture for this UL transfer & Baylor is already stacked at the post. I would throw SC in the mix but we've already taken what seems like a bunch of transfers already. We'll all find out her new list of schools soon I suppose.

Don't think so. Having seen her play twice in her final season at Elizabethton she's not major D1 talent. She's definitely a smart lady though. Grades wouldn't have kept her out of any college.

She will not be an All-American in any of her 4 seasons at Duke. That's even if she stays there the entire time. I feel like she will be transferring out after a couple of seasons seeing that she's not going to get much playing time there. She may decide to stay to get her degree but if she wants to play basketball she's going to have to go elsewhere in my opinion.

No way slick:eek:lol:! As I stated earlier, Emily will receive a great education, if she doesn't mind do clean up work and get use to being on the sideline.

Yep 76% winning percentage with three elite eights....Hopefully she has recruiting figured out this year and she can continue to grow as a coach.

A good coach can go to a traditionally underperforming program and build a winner. Could Holly do that?

Why would White leave you guys and head to Texas aren't they stacked in the post as well?
