HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Somebody help me:. The Night's King is the leader of the white walkers (horns, blue eyes), correct? He was originally 13th commander of the Night's Watch? How was he turned into his present state?

IMO this Nights King is different than the books. The one told about in the books was the 13 LC of the Nights Watch and he supposedly married a female other I think. In the show it appears the Children of the forest created the Nights King during their war with the First Men so he would be older than the Wall and also the Nights Watch.

That's how I understand it. Show may have taken some creative license (again)

I think they combined two characters. The Night's King in the books is a human that loves a WW. The show uses him as a way to show how they started.

I dont think the Nights King/Coldhands is a WhiteWalker anyway. I'm pretty sure I read GRRM saying a long time ago that Coldhands was not a WW, but "something different" I may be wrong though.

He's a wight. Whitewalkers are there undead drones that make up their army.

If they did that..that is a huge departure from the history. I can see changing from the books like they do in the present goings on, by if they are saying the WW ruler is the Nights King..that is stupid. I still think that Coldhands is the Nights King. That is why the guy is called the Nights King in the first place..he ruled the Nights Watch.

Now I'm even more confused. Coldhands, who saved/protected Bran, IIRC has been dead for a long time. Doubt that's Benjen. Could be the LC13. But who exactly, then, is the white walker leader? Are there two characters referred to as the "Night's King" (apparently the writers referenced that name at some point when discussing the WW leader)???

I think it was dumb for the show writers to give the WW leader that title. They didn't have to. As far as I know there is no WW ruler called the Nights King in the books.

didn't he bang a WW? Maybe he was turned but not after he was dead so he's got his mental faculties but is still an undead

Yeah that's the legend. Maybe that is what GRRM meant by "something different".. That he is a one off and there is nothing else like him.

So, maybe they are two different characters, entirely?

That could be plausible. It is better than just trashing the established ancient history of Westeros. They do not have to do that for the show. I realize that due to the time constraints of movies/television that they have to do a lot of compression, but they do not have to change history to move the story to it's conclusion.

Umm..no. She had come conclusions that were out there. And for petes sake people...Bran the Builder is the founder of House Stark and the first king in the north..8000..years ago and was the one responsible for building the wall, hence..Bran the "Builder".. He is not the Nights King..the Nights King was the 13th Lord Commander of the Nights watch, who went rouge. He may have been a Brandon Stark, but not the original Bran the Builder Stark.

So after doing some digging I found a quote by GRRM which seems to indicate that the Nights King of the Legends who was the 13th commander of the Nights Watch, and The Night King who is leading the WW are two different characters. Anyway the guy having the obsidian shoved into his chest by the COTF is supposed to have been created, if I understand this right, during the war between the First Men and the Children of the forest. Predating the wall and the Nights Watch.

I think you're right, but I wonder why he isn't a mindless WW zombie like the rest.

He had sex with a female wight which caused him to lose his soul. After he was executed by Bran the Breaker it's said that his body roamed the far north which is called "the land of always winter" which is were the white walkers come from.

If you read the books Old Nan specifically talks about the Nights King and how he was a member of House Stark.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but the vision Bran had by himself when the Nights King grabbed him, I think the tree frozen in ice was the same Weirwood that it showed in the earlier vision when the children created the Nights King. Does this mean the lands far to the North weren't always frozen?

Yep. And if you re watch notice how the stones are lined up. Thats similar to how the horse heads were lined up after the WW laid waste to the Nights Watch dudes a few seasons ago.

I know that..follow me here..The WW were created before the Wall and the Nights watch. They were the reason the Wall and the Nights watch were formed in the first place. The Nights King that Old Nan was telling the story of, was the 13th Lord Commander of the Nights Watch and very likely was a Stark..so..That Nights King and the WW Ruler who is being called the Night King are two different entities imo. But who knows really? We will see I guess.
