9-1-16? (Vols' season opener moved to Thursday)

As of right now there are no games set on ESPN 2 for that Saturday, that just adds to the poor decision making

Actually it's great. We woulda been drowned out that Saturday with so many big games going on.

Now we'll have the eyes of the entire nation and get to kick off the college football season.

I love it.

We don't get drowned out, for gosh sakes, We Are Tennessee
And we play on Saturday . Hart could care less about the fans

Ole Miss.....in Memphis

It used to be a neutral site thing Ole Miss and Tennessee did sometimes when they played more regularly (TN used to play them almost yearly from around the late 1920s/ early 1930s until 1991, with the splitting into divisions of the SEC in 1992 ending the yearly rivalry).

They played it in Memphis in the games between 1935-1938, between 1942-1949, from 1956-1968 it alternated between Knoxville (when UT was the home team) and Memphis (when Ole Miss was the home team), in 1974, in 1975, in 1977, in 1980, in 1990, and finally in 1996.

Bama is at 8 EST and the Barn is at 9 EST. We would have been at noon according to UT. Wouldn't have been cool that's for sure.

Right. One of his main complaints was that he wouldn't get to watch any of the "great"/big name matchup games because he'd have to miss watching UT play its game that day.

There really wasn't much chance, if any, of overlap before the move anyways, though.

If you have a wife who has enough time to log on to Volnation as 79 different posters, you suck as a husband.

Thanks VG! Proved my point

Actually we have a 6&7 year old she does a great job raising while I travel from coast to coast and China to build our business

Right now she's at the lake with her friends (Girl's weekend) celebrating her birthday

I suck!

Well, somewhere in this ridiculousness it has to have been mentioned by now that it was probably moved to Thursday to get it on t.v. Which is cool. It's a good move. Nobody gonna watch appy state other wise except vol fans.

It's not like it was moved onto ESPN or a main network, it was moved to SEC Network.

This move was most likely made not because UT approached ESPN about trying to get its game on TV but because ESPN came to UT saying they were looking for a Thurs night game for the SEC Network and told UT's AD they'd pay the school if it agreed to move that first game to Thursday night.

They announced this year's SEC schedule October of last year. Is that late?

It is when you pick vacation days in October.

I actually went back and looked last year, and the schedule was relased during the summer for at least 2 seasons prior to the start of the SECN.

Boys or girls? I had boys (4 year apart). Assuming you're watching the kids while she's having her girls get-away, you rock! I only question the 6 AND 7 year old. Is one adopted? (Sorry, I don't mean to offend if one is adopted, just making a joke about being less than two years apart.)

I feel your pain -- seems like were ACC now

I'd say I know this campus, traffic, etc infinitely better than you.

But your posts are getting worse by the post. So demand will decrease because so many can't or won't attend, yet parking gets worse.

Please post more.

Students have to use those lots during the week, including for weekday evening classes, don't they?

That was my point.

Because you can't go or its inconvenient for you, you hope 102,000 other people, the University, and the city that hosts the games all have a miserable time?

Yeah pretty much. Screw it up once, won't happen again. Sorry if that makes me selfish, but I prefer the games on Saturday.

I can't BELIEVE all you Goobers complaining about the Season starting even EARLIER than we ALL thought!

I CAN'T WAIT!!! so I'm HAPPY for 9/1!!!

I'm sure they got some sort of kickback from the SECN, but you'd like to think he accounted for the bigger picture and the fact that his business model, as well as a large part of Knoxville's tourism economy hinges on getting these people from across the region into Knoxville for those 7 weekends each fall.

Does that actually balance out the school getting an extra, let's say, several thousands or some/several tens of thousands to move it though?

The AD's job is mainly to make decisions regarding the school and its athletic programs, right? Wouldn't (it seem) to him just getting an extra, nice chunk of change only at the loss of moving one game - that will likely sell a majority of its tickets since it's the opener - to an earlier day in the week?

I'm not necessarily a fan of one date more than the other at this point, but how much would the athletic department actually consider the city's tourism for just a single weekend...in a situation where they get an extra let's just say $20k, $30k (I doubt $40k or $50k but let's throw that in there too) from ESPN?

(Am asking. Not trying to be argumentative...I could completely misunderstand how this works.)

Lots of great posts . . . but, I still think it sucks.

Continuing to ponder this a bit further, I think the university is so focused on B@B game they forgot that the first game of the season is always something special. Sadly, they're treating the first game of the 2016 season like an off-date scrimmage.

Maybe they should refund our ticket fees and 1/7th the donation and open this up like an orange and white game. They could ensure good attendace and we'd have a lot less to complain about. Just a thought.

Not sure they'd ever do that.

No problem. 20 months apart. My daughter turned 6 in April. Son turns 8 in August. Figured if 1 was in diapers might as well have 2.

And yes, she is at the lake and I am home with the kids. I far from rock, but thank you.

Well done man. :good!:

Per the SEC TV contract, schools cannot receive any additional money for moving a game to another date. There was no financial incentive here.
