2016 Election Thread Part Deux

GOP reacts....

dawson_crying.gif

This is funny coming from you. Just the mention of the Koch brothers is usually enough to send you into hysterics. I love a good Koch brother meltdown, so I'm a little disappointed.

The Koch brothers are and have always been libertarians at heart.

The Twelfth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
So then the 12th Amendment would invalidate the GOP elite trying to throw in a candidate that didn't finish in the top 3 via a contested convention? Or are you talking about something completely different? If I understand you correctly, the GOP elite would NOT be able to run a candidate of their choosing.

Any candidate who is in the top 3 of electoral votes received is eligible to be selected by the House and become POTUS if no one reaches 270. If the GOP elite/Never Trump/whatever was able to field a third-party candidate who could manage that, that person could theoretically become president.

I'm speaking to the narrow circumstance that neither Clinton nor Trump gets to 270 EC delegates. The amendment states that the person with the most EC votes, IF it is a majority of the total, wins. If there is no majority winner, then it goes to the house.

It has not happened in almost 200 years. And when it says votes, I imagine it is referring to EC votes, not popular vote, although I guess that could be its own can of worms.

So, if Clinton, Trump, and Johnson have the most votes of all candidates (EC I believe), then the House can pick any of them. If alternatively the GOP ran one person in, say, the five to ten states they thought they could win, and that person won a handful of them so that neither Trump nor Clinton has a majority of EC delegates, it goes to the House and they can pick any of the three.

It gets better. If no one is selected by March 4, then guess who becomes president?

Hint: his name rhymes with Go Crythen

Hillary will come apart like a two dollar watch. She has no warmth, no charisma, has a real problem with the truth.

People just don't like her. The more she opens her mouth, the more she will drop in the polls.

You're right, but there is a floor to that, and a ceiling for him. We are close to both, IMO.

As of right now Fox news and Rasmussen are outliers just like in 2012 when they both had Romney winning by +1 and he lost by 3.9. Rasmussen polls usually have an error of 5.3 and Fox has an error of 3.9.

Polls are entertaining, that is all.

look the LG motto!

Rasmussen's prior results, or shall we call them fantasies, speak for themselves.

And here's a few of the more choice Fox News poll questions over the years:

“In the aftermath of the Benghazi terrorist attacks, the Obama administration incorrectly claimed it was a spontaneous assault in response to an online video, even though the administration had intelligence reports that the attacks were connected to terrorist groups tied to al Qaeda. Do you think the Obama administration knowingly lied about the attacks to help the president during the ongoing re-election campaign, or not?”

“Do you think the Democratic Party should allow a grassroots organization like Moveon.org to take it over or should it resist this type of takeover?”

“Do you think illegal immigrants from Mexico should be given special treatment and allowed to jump in front of immigrants from other countries that want to come to the United States legally, or not?”

“Do you think the United Nations should be in charge of the worldwide effort to combat climate change and the United States should report to the United Nations on this effort, or should it be up to individual countries and the United States would be allowed to make decisions on its own?”

“Former President George W. Bush stopped golfing after the start of the Iraq war. Do you think President Barack Obama should stop golfing until the unemployment rate improves and the economy is doing better?”

I realize that these hyper-partisan "questions" are really appealing to you. But in terms of polling? "Fair and balanced" my azz!

He's getting soft. He didn't use evil to describe either one.

In this respect its just a question of whether they 1) are using models that result in a biased result (i.e. not using cell phones, just land lines, which tend to be answered by older folks, at home, who tend to be more conservative); and 2) "push" polling, where the question is worded in such a way as to promote a particular answer.

For examples of the latter, see my post above with some of Fox's most ... creative .... ways to ask polling questions.

Trump's reaction to the Egypt Air crash has proven what his critics have had to say about him. He is unsophisticated and simply too dangerous to put in the WH.

I love it when you make comments like this without providing any context.

A link from time to time wouldn't kill you.

What EgyptAir says about Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump - CNNPolitics.com

Trump was tweeting yesterday morning before 6:30 a.m. that it was probably terrorism, despite the complete lack of any official comment on that. And then he went off on Islam, as an entire religion.

He's feeding what ISIS wants, which is to make this East v. West, us v. them, Christian v. Muslim. I imagine they are trying to come up with some sort of terrible attack in October, just to try to help Trump win.
