In the books the Karstarks are portrayed a little different.
In the show's canon he's supposedly at Last Hearth. However, I can't really think of a good reason why the Umbers would give him up if they didn't already.
Still doesn't elimate the possibility though. The warging isn't necessary IMO though. The story of fine without it. It would add an element to the possible dragon thing if that's true
In the books the Karstar'ks side with the Bolton's against Stannis. Even though he tells Stannis he is with him the Karstark's plan to switch sides in the middle of the battle. But the plan is reveled to Jon Snow and he tells Stannis who has them arrested.
Basically the Karstark's are the opposite of the Starks in every way and it doesnt help that Robb Stark executed the head of their house for murdering a Lannister.
I'm sorry..I haven't read DWDs yet. It's just the whole history of House Stark and House Karstark as been one of resolute allegiance. They have always been the staunchest of Stark supporters. The Karstarks have not been portrayed as evil faithless bastards, in any way, in any of the books I've read yet. I know they felt betrayed, but it is weird for them to destroy a relationship that is thousands of years old, and go completely rouge. Especially now that the ones they felt betrayed them(Robb and Cat)have been ruthlessly destroyed. That is a complete departure from their nature. They have been extremely honorable. It is hard to digest that all of a sudden something as evil as The Red Wedding would be ok with them. Guest Right canonically is one of the most sacred(especially among the first men)things in Westeros. I've always believed that House Stark and Karstark would be reunited in the end. They are too honorable(at least they always have been) to continue to go along with the atrocity that is House Bolton. At least I hope so.
Oh, there's no doubt, 88. I didn't mean to imply that you are the origin of the theory. The idea of the warging is certainly being entertained across the fanbase.
I'm don't think I've ever been this excited for a TV show
There were distinct moments that I was pumped for Jack Bauer in 24, Dexter definitely had me hanging in suspense numerous times, and I remember the buildup of Breaking Bad, but this show is in its own class.

I just realized the title for this weeks episode is "oathbreaker". Hmmmm
I still give the nod to BB, but only because it's done and from start to finish it was awesome. GOT has been awesome from the start and is on the same path, and if it finishes awesome (which it most likely will), at that point I'll probably put it a notch above.
Either way, doesn't really matter to me, because #3 on the list is a distant 3 compared to both shows.
Cool story bro..Emilia Clarke is going to be in a movie that is about to be filmed here in the deep dark hills. It is called "Above Suspicion". The director Philip Noyce is going to be lodged where my wife works now. I think principle photography is supposed to start this month. From what we understand EC and other actors will also be staying there while they film locally. Hope I get to meet her...fanboy is not my style, but it would be cool to meet her.
