Have you ever found someone dying or who had just died? It can be absolutely awful.

If you have no training, it is that much worse.

Growing up, an older friend came across a boy right as the boy was hit by a car. The boy basically tried right in front of my friend. He talked to the boy who's last words was"I want my Mom". It haunted my friend forever.

Catbone, calling 911 was an excellent response.
Did the car that hit the motorcycle stop?

I was 13, my friend was 16.
The boy was 12.

Bravest thing was that my friend went to the boy's funeral. He spoke at length with the boy's parents. He said it destroyed him, but he felt that he had to do it.

40 years later and with kids of my own. This still bothers me.

In my experience, the actions of dying isn't so bad as the smell of death. It has a distinct odor. Death starts to become impersonal after the first couple times unless it is a close comrade.

On another note, good job Catbone! Unless you have the training, calling 911 is the best way to go!

Well, this was exactly what I wasn't wanting to hear. Was just today trying to make the final decision about buying a new Harley after 10 years out of the saddle, and have all day had a rock in my gut about it...specifically due to concerns about dragging my wife into potential bike/car interactions. And then I read this...on VN, my safe place.

100% correct.

A couple years ago I was the first person on the scene of a motorcycle wreck myself. It was a man and wife that were riding a motorcycle when they hit a dog and then wrecked into a light pole. I was able to get 911 on its way and checked the pulse of the individuals when I couldn't get a response from them-- I didn't move them because they were somewhat tangled up and moving someone who was just in a violent accident usually compounds the injuries.

The man was dead though his wife was still alive. She died on the medflight to the hospital though.

This all happened at ~12am when I had a college orientation the following morning.

That smell of death still sneaks it's way into my life on occasion. Sometimes it's triggered by something, sometimes it's just out of the blue. You never forget the smell and I guess, once you've seen and smelled it too much, it never leaves you either.

My dad died in my arms. I will never forget. He had cancer and wanted out of the bed. He had asked earlier and we said no because we thought we might hurt him. When I told the nurse, she said to do it if he asked again. He did and as I helped him up he let go of this life as he took a step and went into the next. I was holding him as he took his last breath and remember the cold stare of his eyes before we closed them forever. I never thought he or I would ever die. Now, I know it is inevitable. Sorry guys. Still miss him. You did fine Catbone. I hope they are ok.

Saw a lady killed on the road Sunday, hit as she was entering her car on the side of the road. 5 cars involved. We arrived 30 minutes after the accident, and she laid there for another 30 minutes before they finally took her away.

Alright, guys, I might as well waste my 1,000th post on something trivial but here goes. If you want to see a "REAL WRESTLER," take a look at my avatar. Now that guy is the real deal. Bonus points for anyone who can name who he is (no, it's not me; I'm a lot meaner and stronger than that guy...). :)
