2016 Election Thread Part Deux

Isn't his wife a lobbyist?

She was the president of a college in Vermont until a few years ago. Not sure what she does now other than campaign/advising stuff.

Apparently she's responsible for filing the family taxes and "can't find" the returns for the last 8 years. I'm very curious as to why that is, but transparency isn't very important when it comes to Sanders so it hasn't received any coverage.

Had to look it up. She's his advisor and worked on educational legislation for him. Worked with a few universities before that. Not much to look at though...

Lobbyist.

As senior partner in the Burlington-based consulting firm, Leadership Strategies, O'Meara worked as a political and educational consultant for federal, state, and local political campaigns.

Clinton pins racially charged skit on New York City mayor's shoulders | Fox News

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton distanced herself Tuesday from a racially charged comedy sketch she participated in with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio over the weekend.

In the sketch at the city's annual Inner Circle charity show, de Blasio said he took so long to endorse Clinton for president because he was running on "CP time", an apparent reference to the stereotype of African-Americans being late for appointments. Clinton then interjected: "Cautious politician time. I've been there."

"Well, look, it was Mayor de Blasio's skit," she told Cosmopolitan.com. "He has addressed it, and I will really defer to him because it is something that he's already talked about."

The Republican Party has no concrete ideology. It's a space where libertarians coexist with theocrats, where free marketers coexist with protectionists, where billionaires coexist with dirt poor folks from Appalachia. There's a reason the "party of no" designation has stuck - nobody knows exactly what the GOP is trying to achieve other than opposing the every move of the Democrats. People voted them into Congress en masse and they've accomplished nothing in terms of changing the direction of the country. Where is the cohesive effort on the part of Republican congressmen like we saw back in the 90s? I see a handful of people attempting to make a difference and then a handful of uniparty stooges.

The idea of "a rising tide lifts all boats" is a lot more subtle than entitlements. But I think Romney somewhat mischaracterized the situation - there are a ton of poor rural voters who go for the Republicans despite it probably not being in their best financial interest. I'm sure there are a lot of factors at play there - values of self-dependency, religion, nationalism, etc, but it's hard to reconcile the needs of those people with hedge fund managers under one giant umbrella.

Social conservatism is a lost cause among millennials - not so much in terms of abortion (which will always be a contested issue), but stuff like gay marriage and the entwinement of religion and government, absolutely. Millennials place a disproportionate influence on social issues just because those are the things that readily affect their friends and that they encounter through their media. It's easy to understand these issues because it's pretty binary. Economic issues generally aren't as pressing. I'm not sure about welfare reform - most don't want to see people dying on the street, but also believe that there has to be some sort of personal accountability in receiving entitlements. Of course, the youth will always tilt left to some extent, but this generation grew up during what is widely considered a catastrophe of a presidency, culminating in the recession. Between these events and the rise of left-leaning media like Colbert, Stewart, Oliver, and the like, it's no wonder they're so predisposed against the GOP. The party has been so utterly incompetent this millennium that it's a wonder it still has this much support. The need for alternate options is clear.

Absolutely agree. It's pretty amazing that the collapse is taking so long - probably happens when most people never bother to see the situation - much less analyze it.

The windmills I get. The solar panels... Had no idea about.

Solar panels do not fry birds.

Now there is one (one) prototype solar power generation station on the CA/NV border that smokes birds on the reg. That plant has been a colossal failure on numerous fronts (tech, financing, graft, corruption, etc). That plant does not use "solar panels". It uses a billion (+/-) mirrors to focus light on a few towers housing turbines that (attempt to) generate power. It is an abomination of massive proportions.

However, it has little to nothing in common with 99% (+/-) of the solar power generating stations now producing power.

I remember seeing a story about that https://weather.com/science/news/solar-plants-birds-20140818

Thank you. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how in the world it would fry a bird.

Yep, just what we need, more government...

Clinton's call for new immigration office draws fire | Fox News

The Democratic presidential primary front-runner briefly outlined the plan at a Manhattan event where she picked up the endorsement of the New York State Immigrant Action Fund, an advocacy group.

“I would create the first ever Office of Immigrant Affairs,” Clinton said. “[The office] would create a dedicated place in the White House to coordinate integration policies across the federal government and with state and local government as well.”

A Clinton aide told Fox News ahead of the announcement that the office will ensure that immigrants, refugees and their children are able to become fully integrated members of their communities and country.

Lol

Fox News Monday: "Immigrants need to make more of an effort to fit in. Speak English, pay taxes, integrate and be part of the community! "

Fox News Tuesday: "Unless it's got a thing to do with Clinton. Then that very same idea sucks."

You're missing the point (again) that we really don't need yet another level of government to be inefficient, bloated, wasteful and power hungry in the end.

And one more thing, this new organization is created (again) without the oversight of Congress:

Hillary Clinton Vows To Create An Office Dedicated To Helping Immigrants

Much of the conversation has focused on immigration reform. Clinton’s plan is notable in that it focuses on services for immigrants and refugees that the federal government can coordinate without Congress or sweeping changes using executive authority.

Yeah, that's just what we need...

I agree with you there. Ought to be a community by community thing. She is pandering to the Hispanic community, just trying to appear to be friendly to their causes.

Sounds like something attorneys should donate their time to do for these immigrants......not a new entitlement

Why doesn't hilLIARy release her transcripts from 3 paid speeches that earned her $675K from Goldman-Sachs? What is she hiding?

I imagine she talked about how great they were for the economy. Really does not matter as, whatever she said, there would need to be hearings and Judicial Watch would have to file some lawsuits.

Keep them GOP contribution checks rolling in!
