Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Elif Portakal 5'9 Guard... Has been a mainstay within Turkey national teams since she was 14/15. Crafty guard that penetrates well, above average on ball defense and consistent perimeter shot.

I see that she is consistent on her shots from the perimeter, seems to be a tad bit slow, not impress with her passing/distribution. Her assist numbers are a little lower than I would like but it could be the players around her.

Harris has a pretty good evaluation from Dan Olsen. The thing with her high school team is the coach apparently told her he didn't need her to score. From a friend who has seen her play and what I've seen from her Hudl videos is a player that was a floater on the defensive end... by that I mean someone who had the role of just going after anyone near the basket and on the offensive end she sets a ton of screens. We have a team full of players that were stars of their high school teams. Perhaps having someone who has been a role player her whole playing career so far is what we need. They are generally easier to coach up and mold into players for the system in place. She has a solid frame, moves well and looks to have enough raw talent to grow into a solid player.

Also, Shaquilla Nunn from Winthrop is visiting next week with Kamera. She is an experienced 6'3 post who would be a graduate transfer therefore she would be available right away. Nunn has had solid games over her career against some of their better competition such as SC, Tenn and Miss St. She had 12 points and 15 rebounds against us as a Junior. She would be a major help in the front court and wouldn't affect our recruiting for 2017. Nunn missed last year due to an injury thus having one year left.
Nunn is a solid player. Would love to get her on board.

That's the same thing I said, what has us (on her radar) or her (on our radar) because her numbers aren't impressive at all (besides from 3)

Her 3 point shooting alone makes her a significant upgrade to any of the guards currently on the roster. She may not be great, but she's better than what they've got now.

Will she get in the game though? We know if she doesn't play adequate defense her 3Pt shooting wont matter, ask Dunbar

Nunn is an experienced player who shot 50 percent from the field and averaged 10 rebounds she would be a huge asset to our team next season.

Is she a JUCO player? Why go after her, but didn't pursue Tyasha Harris, the PG from Indiana? The 2017 class is loaded with good guards. No offense, but Hayes looks better than this prospect.

She is from Turkey is the starting point guard for their National team. I have no idea why we didn't go after Harris. Maybe we did and she said no.

That was my point why not go after Tyasha Harris. If look at some videos of Harris would see that she is a pg that would give the another weapon on the offensive end.

Was she even interested in Tennessee?

Maybe recruits are scared off by the depth Tennessee has at guard spot? If so, Holly should bring a printout of their game stats when she meets with recruits to put their minds at ease.

Not sure but what i do know is South Carolina was not on Harris radar after Dawn took a trip to indianapolis Harris has added them to her list. I just don`t think Holly made the push for her.

So instead of getting elite recruits Tennessee is now reduced to drooling over under rated prospects and hoping for transfers... Lawd

++++++++++

Doesn't matter... A good coach can win with what they have: "He can take his'n and beat your'n, and then he can turn around and take your'n and beat his'n."

This is the greatest compliment a coach can get!

Tyasha Harris didn't even have UT on her short list of schools. That's why we never even attempted to go after her.

Is she better two years later than in 2014 that would seem to be the question that needs to be answered.

You can't judge her on her U16 stats. What's she done lately? One shouldn't generalize but European players tend to be to be pretty good--at least they certainly are on the men's side. Hell, a LARGE number of first-round NBA picks are from Europe, every year.

Nunn could probably help us right away.

Not true. SC has been recruiting Harris since last year.. Not as long as some Big 10 schools but still. The notion that SC just popped up on the scene for Harris a month or two ago is untrue. She took her official visit back in November and we've been in her top 10 since last summer..

Exactly what I was saying a 16 year old is far different from an 18 year old in maturity and ability.
Nunn averaged 13.5 points and 10.1 rebounds the season before she broke her foot. She went up against Graves and Harrison and scored 12 and got 15 rebounds when they played us. She has the experience and ability of Graves with a lot more length. Getting her here would fill a huge hole on the roster because I am sure Harris need some time to play at this level.

There's a guard that reopened her recruitment that originally signed with Nebraska
#80 Mi'Cole Cayton G 5-9 Saint Mary's H.S. (CA)
2016 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings - espnW 100 - ESPN

We still have five scholarships to give? :)

I noticed that Ohio State is showing all of their players 15 with the two transfers (Mavunga and Linnear) Yet they have three freshmen comin into only two open spots!!! They signed two guards with four guards already ahead of the Freshmen?? And Tori McCoy with 5 bigs ahead of her! Just waiting to see how all of this turns out...especially since we wanted two of the ladies to come here! Waiting on the FIREWORKS:dance2:
