This is right on. McNeil was also a liability in pass game. He was a big hitter that did great in gang tackling situations.

Randolph was a great leader and had others in position but he was not a consistent playmaker.

We were struggling for those games that McNeil was feared lost. He stabilized after he returned and it was noticeable. Why'd our performance similarly struggle when Randolph had to sit out halfs with those targeting calls? Most likely because Jancek put too much on those positions and you needed a lot of football smarts AND experience to function there. That should shift under Shoop but don't freak out the first time Kelly,Berry,Abernathy, Gaulden,Griffin or Warrior whiffs on one or 30 attempts. As Goliath said before the migraine..."**it happens". :pinch:

McNeil and Randolph liabilities? lol Far from it

Both guys had liabilities as players. Neither are elite athletes, but, particularly with Randolph, the defense was better with them on the field.

That's the problem with D4H - he thinks a guy has to be a future pro bowler to contribute.

He's in NFL franchise mode. You miss out on some great COLLEGE players trying to force that. Chris Simms would have developed better not being forced ahead of Major Applewhite to satisfy star rating and NFL potential diehards in Austin...IMO.

I appreciate the contributions of both Randolph and McNeil at Tennessee. It wasn't long ago that Randolph was one of our top 3 players on defense. And McNeil's comeback story and pick against WCU was one of the highlights of the season. (Also, I may or may not be biased towards Randolph due to meeting his family prior to the TaxSlayer Bowl)

That said, we now have better athletes across the board than what we had when those two committed to UT, and that includes the safety position.

Once you're in, YOU'RE IN. Josh Dobbs knows the drill. 3rd year in a row the 2012 alum has been back to E11 ATL.

Robinsons killing it IMO. I am betting on them taking Ramsey with their 1st pick.

He would make a great pick IMO. They've interviewed him, Mack Alexander, and Shaq Lawson for sure. Think they will wait to decide on Lawson until his medical exam pre-draft. Got to think they are going D if they can get two first round picks by trading down. Ramsey/Alexander plus Lawson would be awesome. I really think that Byron Bell signing/RT designation points that way. If they believe Lewan can make it at LT, then you do what they did and draft a developmental OT with good upside later on.

Kaep doesn't look likely for Cleveland so there will be several teams in the Goff sweepstakes that could give the team what they want to trade down. Will see.

Early in his career, Randolph looked like a better athlete. Injuries and added weight hurt him his last two years.

We are better but over the later half of the year Randolph was blowing ball carriers up. People saying he was a liability may want to watch a lot of the latter half of the year.
