2017- The Tri-Star Class

ohYY5.jpg

Not worried but underwhelmed at this point. Was told a couple of weeks ago at least one high profile player was going to commit.

Still waiting young man. Let's go

So far 3 projects in a limited capacity class is not the way many expected an "epic" or "best ever" class would start off.

Long way I know, but I can see why some would be underwhelmed or even disappointed.

I got a question. If one of our current commits becomes a 4 star, are they still projects?

Pretty sure labeling as chicken littles is implying freaking out, no? Pretty sure someone who is expecting the sky to fall is the definition of freaking out.

There are plenty of relatively low key Chicken Littles. They KNOW that the world is ending...but aren't into histrionics. :cool2:

Limited capacity? How many are we limited in this one?

We have more room than last year. We took 3 stars last year and still ended top 15 with only 21 recruits. If we'd had 3 or 4 more spots available we'd likely have ended up top 10. I think we can still do the same and then some with the recruits left on our board. Let's not worry until the big time players we are in on commit elsewhere.

Reality is somewhere in the middle on the recruiting class.

I totally understand where people are coming from with the underwhelming class business, but remember we were all a lot more excited about Dontavious Blair than Chance Hall and a lot of people wanted Derrick Green, too.

VolNation just isn't a very good source for expert talent evaluations.

It's simple. We ball out this fall, win the east, beat Bama, go to the playoff, we get super star recruits. We ball out. Play in the SEC championship but lose, we get very good recruits. We fall short of Atlanta, we get good recruits.

Hopefully this years theme is "Finish" both in practice, in games for sure:), and in recruiting. GFW- are we still on some big players like Gibbs and others who are just waiting to commit until later?

Underrated statement of the day, IMO.

It isn't so cut and dry. I think as long as we win 9 or 10 games in the regular season and make the SECCG, we'll get all of the big time recruits waiting to see progress from us, especially in state and close ones like Gibbs.

Anything beyond that and who knows, but I still wouldn't say with certainty that we just suddenly drop into a lower tier of recruiting and miss out on all of these recruits. There will be playing time to sell at certain positions like RB, etc. We'll still land elite recruits. It will vary from sales pitch to sales pitch, from kid to kid, and from what they want at the time to what they wanted now.

I agree with your general premise, I just think you're making it sound too simplistic.

It will be another dogfight for top recruits if we go 9-3, I can assure you of that. That's quite likely a 5-3 SEC record and no guarantee of a trip to ATL.

It would be especially bad if UGA and UF also have good/decent seasons. Negative recruiting will be something fierce. Other coaches will point at Butch and say that he underachieves, couldn't even win his division with the best roster and 3 of his top players returning for the sole purpose of winning big, etc. And the sexual assault thing will likely still be hanging over the AD's head at the time as well.

Just win 10, win the East, and reap the rewards on the recruiting trail. As long as Butch does that, he won't have any concerns. And anything beyond 10 wins and an SEC East title is just icing on the cake.

I saw the term "exotic smashmouth" used when the Titan coaches were describing what they want their offense to look like.

Would you say that is what the vols' offense was looking like at the end of year? I hope they continue to evolve the power game.

That moment you run into a fellow Vol fan at the barbershop and give Bama fans hell! -PRICELESS 😁

Despite winning multiple championships in the last decade, they are still the most insecure fanbase.

God forbid you suggest that their dline, rb, strength coach, etc isn't the best ever.

Not to be argumentative but I really do think it is that simple. We can't sell immediate playing time for the most part. We have talent and everyone knows it. If we lay an egg in two of the big three, Bama, GA, and Florida, other coaches will and can make the case that we squander talent.

QB CJ Lewis

Rutgers, Tennessee, Boston College, Syracuse, Massachusetts, and many others are staying in touch with Lewis.

"I talk to coach Ash and coach Mehringer from Rutgers a lot," said the 6-foot-3, 197-pound Lewis. "From Tennessee, I’ve been talking with coach DeBord. At Boston College I talk to coach Leonard, my recruiting coordinator, and coach Addazio."

Lewis has two visits scheduled with more on the way.

"I just visited a few schools but I plan on visiting Wake Forest on April 2nd and Tennessee on April 16th," he said. "I’ll try to get some other visits in before that."

Two years ago I suffered a spiral break of my right fibula at the ankle. Operation to fix it included eight screws to hold the bones together.

Good news, the bones healed in 7 weeks & cast came off. Bad news, it took two more months for the sprain to heal so that I could walk without a crutch. Problem was that after a total of 4 months off the leg, it took a long time to get my strength back. Started hiking & hitting golf balls, but right hip would hurt, shoulder would hurt, etc. It took a year before I felt that I was completely back with my golf game.

Of course, I was 67 at the time, so hopefully Tuttle will heal faster than that. :)

I remember that Kid...glad you recovered well! :hi:
