2016 Election

I believe it was bham.

This could be the first time the two partis nominees did not participate in the primarie. Nothing will surprise me during this cycle. It is beyond belief.

I still think even in a brokered convention Trump gets the nod. And as I stated earlier, the GOP can't be stupid enough to go against the will of the voters. But as I also stated, I think Trump will end up giving a few concessions to the GOP to get the official sanction.

NYT just called Michigan for Sanders.

Imagine how mad Hilldawg is right now. She still comes out ahead as far as delegates are concerned on the night, but the longer Sanders hangs around, the worse for her.

Fox called it as well.

The issue of the DNC Convention came up earlier and how Sanders supporters should be (rightfully) pissed about the delegate count with the super delegates. And how undemocratic it is.

It's rigged, no doubt. The superdelegates help insulate against insurgent candidates and proportional voting in particular ensures Sanders has no chance unless he starts winning major states by 20%+.

I've said in the past most of the time the DNC will fall right into lockstep with the chosen candidate. But I could have been wrong on that theory and Sanders' supporters very well could sit this election out with the way it's going down.

The media is focused on the GOP "fracturing" and pretty much ignoring the split that could happen in the DNC.

Hillary had more super delegates than Obama too.

This idea of a fracture got a lot of play in 2008, but Hillary and Obama were pretty similar ideologically. And the recession, Palin, and Obama's charisma went a long way toward mending the wounds of a pretty bitter primary.

I'm not sure it will happen to that extent this time around. Sanders is much further left and many of his supporters do not like HRC one bit. At the very least, youth turnout will be incredibly depressed. If Trump receives the GOP nomination, minority turnout could counteract that.

Looks like Cruz is going to take Idaho.

Bet Gramps will be cranky in the morning when he sees that :)

well.. the poorest state in the nation votes for clinton instead of sanders.. never understand why people vote against their own interest. But I guess every income level does it.. except the rich.

Agree on everything but the minority vote turnout. Honestly, they don't have a candidate to rally around like they did with Obama in 2008 and I don't think you're going to see the record numbers show up like you did then.

Fear is a hell of a driver. You know they're going to be blaring all the things Trump has said from the mountaintop.

Black turnout will probably be down for the Dems, but Hispanics and Asians will probably go up. And while they're not really a "minority", Trump does badly with women.

The same dissatisfaction and anger exists across the electorate; Sanders simply has a massive systemic obstacle. Plenty on the left are unhappy with establishment politics.

You don't see the DNC pushing the make history again angle with the first woman president?

Who I would vote for:

Sanders vs Trump
Sanders

Clinton vs Trump
Trump

Clinton vs the rest
guess I have to flip a coin again.

They certainly can try. But let's face facts here, Hillary doesn't excite anyone (in more ways than one) even in the DNC base. Obama, even given his many faults, was very charismatic. Far more than Hillary in 2008. Which is one of the reasons he took that nomination away from her.

And I don't think the word charismatic and Hillary Clinton have ever collided in this space-time.

Oh, you can bet the "war on women" will be out in full force, but as a rallying cry? I don't see that getting much traction.

This is the bigger picture, and the bigger issue imo, with politics in general. You've got the DNC doing everything they can (without being blatantly biased... though some of it is blatant) to get Hillary elected, and you've got the RNC being even more blatant by actually spending money and calling on other's to negatively campaign against the candidate leading for the GOP ticket.

And this is why more and more voters are, and should be, getting upset with the political parties and the political process in general. Candidates choose to run under one of the tickets (or as an Indy) and the people should decide who they want to represent said party in the general election. However, this year more than ever, you have the DNC/RNC overriding the actual interest of the voters by trying to heavily promote the candidate(s) THEY prefer for the general.

For those people who believe in the electoral process and how it is supposed to be based on caucuses and primaries of each state, this should be very alarming. In other words, the people's vote is carrying less and less weight in the election process and that is not a good thing... whether you agree with who the people are voting for or not.
