I think Lawson was all about strength too. Szerszen has them working on strength and speed/quickness.

Saw that on a shared War Room. Real high speed followed by strength...players are staying longer.

I'd love to agree with you, but as a Memphis fan who was in the stands when we knocked off Ole Miss last year, Fuente is the truth. VaTech will learn how to put up points, it's just a matter of time IMO.

I think he'll do a really good job there. That looks like a great hire for them, but I don't think he'll have them ready to beat a UT team that should be considerably deeper and more talented in his second game.

I wonder if that has anything to do with why our WRs look like total beasts but aren't quick enough to ever get open. Just a thought I had when I read your post.

I wouldn't count that out as a factor. I think we showed last year that our boys aren't afraid to hit and hit hard. I also think we showed last year that we are faster/quicker (WR's being the exception), but if this guy can make them even better, I'm all for it. Nothing against Lawson, but if this guy can make them even better....we're going to be scary good.

PWilly may have swapped number. That might be Jeff George.

Edit: I just saw a pic of George wearing #19. My only guess on PWilly is that he didn't get much fall practice and the stripe stayed on. I'll bet it comes off pretty quick.

By what I've kept up with, there are 6 scholly guys from last year's class that still have their stripe-

Preston Williams
Vincent Perry
Andrew Butcher
Austin Smith
Tommy Townsend
& Riley Lovingood

Hey, Im down whatever makes us better. It does make me wonder though...our guys maul corners when they are blocking but then they aren't physical enough to beat CBs at the line and they aren't quick enough to get good separation. It's all just very odd.

May very well have a lot to do with injuries the last couple of Springs too. We've definitely had more than our fair share of them.

True. I just don't think you can sleep on a Fuente-coached team.

At Memphis it took a couple of crap years to really build his team. He'll already be looking at better athletes across the board at VT than he had at UofM. And while those athletes won't be nearly as big/strong/fast as what our roster looks like, if they execute, they could still spring an upset.

That said, this is the most winnable OOC P5 game we've had since NC State in 2012 or UCLA in 2009.

I'm not trying to be contrarion, but I know players on the team and a lot of them really love Lawson. Not sure where this idea came from

Ask whatever sources comprise the War Room...maybe you can get them to recant? :hmm:

I still believe if Gaulden and Martin could play early last year we finish in ATL. Gotta get these injuries down if we can, hope this helps

Always love how a few months of off-season work can make such an improvement. Some of the players that I've seen so far look monstrous. I really hope Shy and KMAC just destroy this year. I think our defensive could be the greatest we've had in a long time if the injury bug stays away.

You could be right, especially if one of them coulda made the tackle in the 4th quarter of the Florida game.

Wasn't it one of the coaches that said something along those lines last year? Literally, "if we had Gaulden, the Florida/OU games would be a different story" or something? I read it somewhere in the RF.
