CBJ allegedly tells Drae Bowles he 'betrayed the team'

College campuses all across America need to get out of the business of handling sexual assault. Otherwise this is just going to start happening everywhere. If a crime is committed against you, you go to law enforcement.

I have been a reader of Volnation for years now. I have been a member since 2010, but I just hardly ever post. However; this sucks bad. Right when we are on the cusp of being great again, we have to deal with this type of stuff. Hopefully this just all blows over and we can get on to 2016 being the year we make a run at the SEC again, like we all expected. I fear that this may not end very well though. Hope I am wrong!

amen!!

I appreciate that.

Again, if this goes to trial, which is a big if, he will get grilled on this topic by both sides and it will depend on what he says as to whether or not he's "credible".

If you're trying to get me to say he's not credible at this very moment because he's told different accounts, I think he was under a lot of pressure and if it comes to it, I'll wait and see what he says.

I'll translate..."He lied then or he's lying now...I'm sure he had a good reason for whichever instance it was"

Damn fine post! Of course you're going to get a bunch of CBJ Fan Boys with their idiotic comments, rather than addressing the interesting question(s) you've raised. I believe if this crap is ever going to go away, we (Tennessee) need to address this and all the other issues that are troubling. It has gone way past just the Football program, this crap is effecting the entire school, and the State of Tennessee.
. My ? Has players been convicted? Has a case happend? Has the accusers been proven right? So my ? To is y are you busting on cbj with out truth what if some chick gave or man gave you the goods and then claimed rape what if your friend helped her ? What ifs and no proof of wrong or innocence so shut your idiotic democratic no morale having hybrid driving tree hugging azz

This statement from Bowles can only be proven if recorded. If not, then it is all hearsay. Time for UT to go on the offensive. If not, more unsubstantiated statements will continue. IMO.

Re: CBJ allegedly tells Drae Bowles he 'betrayed the team.'

Sounds like possible case of "sour grapes." There's so much conjecture and hearsay about this whole issue. It's as if many of us are being successfully sucked-in to their game.

Close.

If he was intimidated by anyone it's the same thing being alleged by the young women.

That's bad for us.

If the allegation is true, I can’t see Coach Jones being removed because of this. He reacted incorrectly in the heat of the moment, but from the allegation, he called Bowles to apologize. In every case of a player being accused of something, he has removed the player from the team almost immediately. I do not see how this indicates any preferential treatment of his players in any way.
I have some questions about this suit. Note that I am a UT alum, and I am not a lawyer. Perhaps someone can comment on this. Sexual assault is a criminal act, however, there have only been two cases that I am aware of where the women brought criminal charges. One was the still pending case against AJ Johnson and Williams, and the other was the case against Pearson, which, after investigation, was dismissed by the DA for lack of evidence. The article today said that Pearson was allowed to enroll even after an internal investigation found that he had assaulted one of the new plaintiffs. It doesn’t make sense to me that a UT investigation would find that he did something that the police investigation, which would be more in depth for a criminal complaint that a UT administrative action, did not find.
The University of Tennessee is not a law enforcement agency and has no authority over criminal acts, so why would these women (except presumably two, we don’t know their identities so I can only assume that two of those in the suit are the ones who brought criminal charges, one of which was dismissed by the DA for lack of evidence, and the other still pending) not bring criminal charges, but only bring administrative actions with the University? The worst thing the University can do to offenders is to kick the accused out of school if they are found to have committed the act. And by the way, I think in each case except for the two where the athletes were cleared of wrongdoing, those athletes were out of school within about two months. So is it possible (except possibly for the one who brought still pending criminal charges) that this is really about getting a big payout from the University, and ultimately from the taxpayers of the state of Tennessee? Just asking.
At any rate, with the exception of this isolated incident with Bowles which Jones corrected, he has removed players who were charged with any type of questionable act, and maintains the Fourth and 1 program to give the players life lessons outside of football, including training on sexual assault. It looks to me like he is doing everything he has the power to do. Am I missing something?

Half the people in Jackson think Drae was a fraud to start with, created by the local media who had close ties to his father and the private school he attended. If I sent you his stat sheet pushing him as a D1 athlete you would have laughed me in to hiding.

Chatter around town now seems to lead to to the thought that this is all blowing up in the face of the Drae Bowles PR machine. Don't think they expected the Twitter backlash and fully expected to ride the hero train all the way.

The last thing this camp wanted was for people to dig further in to the story so not sure how today's news came about. Don't think they were on board but now it's gonna get bad.

If UT takes a stand and fights this, Jones will be fine and this could be the thing that makes the whole suit go away.

I stand by what I said on another thread way back when. "When all this plays out, It's not gonna end well for Drae"

Oh there will be money for him. Don't kid yourself.

He better hope there is big money in it for him. Prospective employers aren't going to be overly impressed with his history of firing shots against a former University that gave him a scholarship. What happens when he leaves their employment?

Bowles doesn't seem to understand that actions have consequences.

Whether it's fair or not, sports columnists and feminists everywhere have their pitchforks out right now and are preparing to storm the castle. Butch Jones must address this and give it some context. His reputation is at stake.

If he called him a traitor, it doesn't matter how many times he called to apologize.

Proving it is another thing entirely. Although you can check cell phone records to see if CBJ called him several times in a short period of time

I can’t see Coach Jones being removed because of this. He reacted incorrectly in the heat of the moment, but from what I read, he called Bowles twice to apologize, recognizing his initial reaction was wrong.

And where did you read that Jones apologized? Much less twice? From what Bowles said? That wouldn't be self-serving would it?
