I feel like I say this every year

No one does the offseason like the Tennessee Vols

You got that right. It just seems like that every time we have some success and get some good news (great bowl game win, solid signing day close to recruiting, great momentum for next year) that the nutkicks almost immediately ensue (Tee Higgins, Title IX lawsuit, Peyton Manning character assault, former player arrested and who knows what else). Every time something good happens, I find myself bracing for the inevitable nutkick that will follow. I am also a Cubs fan, so maybe that is where some of that comes from. But, it sure does seem that we get more than our fair share.

I just read GFWs comment. I think he might be saying that the Crowder stuff is unrelated to the sexual assault lawsuit, but it's just more bad news for UT.

I don't think he was necessarily saying there was more bad news to come.

"Unrelated but not the only bad news this spring"

Not to be Debbie Downer, but it sounds like we better brace ourselves.

Why would bad news come out of Gainesville for VOLS?

I am very thankful for the police and they job they do. I’m thankful from what I can tell by reading the story there wasn’t a actual victim involved.

I pray for Mack, that God will clean his heart up man. As a parent I couldn’t imagine this news coming to me about my child. I pray for that family, it’s going to be a very long road.

It’s a tragic event that could have been worse if not for the police.

This is how we should all feel about it IMO. Good post. Mack needs much help from the Lord and society to correct this. In that the law enforcement community is represented in my family and circle of friends, my prayers and sincere appreciation go out to them daily.

Great post! Summed up my thoughts as well. I'm afraid this isn't the first time though. Look at his mugshot, somebody clocked him in the temple.

There is no substitute for good character at any level of society. UT is not exempt just because we love the school or its sports. Butch is visibly seeking it for the football program. This is a momentary affliction. Long term progress continues.

If the team somehow survives until the fall and wins 10+ games, it's a virtual guarantee that Neyland Stadium will spontaneously implode in January 2017.

I forgot that Mack went to SEC Media Days with Butch. The Tennessean will probably spin that as more evidence that Butch supports a culture of sexual assault on the football team. Because apparently coaches must be able to accurately predict whether a player is secretly a scumbag/pedophile.

Man I'm kinda sick thinking about this. Am I reading this right that he drove from Knoxvilke to Tampa? He had what 15 hours to think about this and change his mind?

*Ephebophile

Not that it matters... Just saw some discussing it

Bigger picture here in light of everything...

Don't for a second think every male isn't capable of a sexual crime. If you're addicted pornography you, in effect, are advancing sex trafficking. Most of which starts at a young age. Lust is poison. Mack didn't wake up yesterday and decide to eviscerate his life.

I hope we all fall to our knees and pray that God guards our hearts and strengthens us against such temptation. This is a broken world and there's one way out, a narrow and often difficult path to find.

So yes rebuke the behavior but don't let his errors pass in vain. Use this to better you.

You know they will

Well said, engineer. Pretty deep for me just being in the middle of my first cup of coffee. But good thoughts, sir.

To continue the period of reflection...

This is another bad consequence of the social network culture we are in and are having to raise our kids in.

I don't know all the right answers to when your kids should be allowed to have cell phones and Facebook and computers, etc. but I know there is and/or should be a limit or threshold of some kind.

As a dad to four kids, three of them girls, I am very scared about the whole situation and that I could make the wrong decision on it all. Thankfully my kids are still young, but I am dreading the looming battle and the vigilance required to keep them safe - both physically and spiritually.

Social media is straight up societal cancer. I strongly believe that. And it's only going to get worse as it becomes more ubiquitous. There have been countless studies showing that it has zero positive effects on life and only negatively affects people's self-esteem. As you said, it's even worse for impressionable young kids who are growing up with it.

I have three boys, young also. These are not new issues. But it certainly is more visible now. I'll pray for your family, the decisions your children will make and the wisdom you'll bestow upon them. You're a good dad, Sam, if even for just pondering it all.

from time to time I mention i have a good contact that is with the team Every day

Seems like a great day to post his text to me when I asked him About punch gate

Text on 10/6

Dr. Drew would tell you not to agonize over the minutia of all the possible technologies and ways your daughters could become victims. The best way to combat future victimhood is to raise girls who have a great sense of self worth and a very clear understanding of appropriate boundaries. Those two aspects alone will go a long way in preventing bad situations regardless of their social media involvement. I can't speak first hand, but it makes sense to me.

Dr. Volssam would tell you I have been told zillions of times I shouldn't worry. To which my anxiety-riddled brain laughs derisively and taunts my tortured spirit; then proceeds to further stoke the fires of my OCD.

This is your Sistine Chapel, dare I say your pepperoni pizza, face it, then Win

I mean I won't say the possible victimhood of my girls doesn't or wouldn't scare me some. I plan to try to make sure my girls have a strong sense of self worth and such. I don't think they would fall into the trap of a predator in a situation like this (I am not so blindly prideful or naive that I will say never but I don't think that will be an issue for my
Kids).

But the spiritual warfare is what is the most scary to me. There is a lot of potential for falling victim to temptation and evil. Engineer touched on it some earlier. Also the interaction dynamic of social media is not healthy IMO. And it creates an environment where people treat others terribly. And it's just not a great situation in general, if you're not careful and guard yourself and your thoughts and reactions, to shine the light of Christ

Exactly what I was thinking.

Ironically, I just finished reading the sex trafficking chapter in Counter Culture and this is exactly what I thought. Many don't realize this, but pornography heavily funds the sex trafficking industry and further fuels the desire for prostitution/extortion of young girls. Similarly, the same perverted sexual desires found in the lust for pornographic images also drives prostitution, which drives trafficking.

It's very real, nearer, and more connected to us all than we want to realize. It doesn't just happen in third-world countries overseas. It is connected to our computers, smart phones, and the results can be found with young girls all over the US unwillingly thrown into prostitution. The question is, how far do we allow the perversion to go?

I pray that Mack is able to have healing from this. He will have to face punishment here on earth, but hopefully it will result in the salvation of his soul for eternity.
