theres a point at which, lets get to be a little establishment, we gotta get things done, folks, okay? Believe me dont worry were gonna make such great deals, I mean we can all be tough, and we can be th-, but you know at some point we gotta get our country back in track.
What's that in context with?
Trump: And you know what, theres a point at which, lets get to be a little bit establishment, because we gotta get things done, folks, okay? Believe me, dont worry, were gonna get such great deals, but at a certain point, you cant be so strident, you cant not get along, we gotta get along with people. You know in the old days, Ronald Reagan, and I remember it so vividly, I was a young guy, I helped Ronald Reagan, I really liked him so what happens, Ronald Reagan would get along with (Democrat) Tip ONeill, and theyd sit down, and theyd make great deals for everybody. Thats what the countrys about, isnt it? I mean, we can all be tough but at some point we gotta get our country back on track.
Trump doesn't talk about smaller government. He just wants to be on the winning side of growing government.
The man is not a conservative. Anyone who says otherwise is letting their trump bias overrule his record.
IMHO there is a time for pragmatism.
Let's take welfare reform under Clinton. Was that a reduction in government or government changing it's role in something? Anyway you look at it it was still a government program - the deal was to change it in an effort to reduce abuses and incentivize work.
At this point, a move like that looks like a huge win.
I'll go ahead and admit I'm warming up to him. Much of his outrageousness is pure show.
He's still not my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice but I could live with it far more than I could Hillary, Bernie, or Cruz.
I've been saying it all along. His brash behavior got him on top to where everyone was talking about him. The media couldn't stop yapping about "Guess what The Donald said today." And guess what? They helped put him on top by keeping him in the news.
He's run a brilliant campaign. Especially with the (unknowing) help of the media.
He, Hillary and Carly have had more deal making experience with world leaders than anyone in the field. Clearly if he was the insult machine he's portrayed to be those deals wouldn't have come to be.
I guarantee he'd be a 180 from Obama in terms of working with Congress (for better or worse)
Both were absolutely complicit.
I'll agree that was an effect of the first two years of the Administration pushing for their agenda and shoving through legislation without getting any input from the other side.
You look at the way the ACA was pushed and how the GOP was treated like they weren't even there with regards to debate on the law. And try to tell me you thought that was anywhere near correct.
