'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

Totally agree. We don't know what this kid is today. But we know he wasn't much couple of years ago. Sometimes recruiting becomes a popularity contest. Once one school offers, they all come rolling in. If we get him, I hope he pans out and delivers. But if we don't get him we shouldn't lose any sleep. Imo Kyle Phillips, Taylor, and butcher are much more likely to be great de's

Some excellent points made. I think Kongbo gets a lot of credit for just looking the part. If you were to draw the prototype for a DE you couldn't do any better than 6'5.5 264 lbs with (supposedly) a 4.69 40. Although, his video from Arizona Western mostly shows him lining up way out wide and not using much in the way of technique to get to the QB. Many times he is not even blocked. He does look very strong and athletic but raw. Very much like someone who hasn't played the game long. I really would like to have him but he is not close to being a 'can't miss prospect' by any means.

There are a lot of coaches that get paid a LOT of money to make these judgements that think otherwise.

??? I didn't say anything negative about him except that I don't think he is a 'can't miss prospect' and based on how little football he has actually played, I think most of those highly paid coaches would agree. My unprofessional and unsolicited opinion also said that he looked as much the part of a DE as a player can and was very strong and athletic. I also observed that he mostly lines up way out wide... and based on the video from Arizona Western that I just watched - he does. :hi:

Evidently has 36.5-inch arms according to Twitter. Lol. Social media. There's that.

If his measurable are legit he's a first round NFL draft pick even with mediocre production.

Also, a red shirt year for a kid with as little experience as Kongbo isn't a reflection of anything beyond the fact that he needs time to learn how to play football

I have a question. Why did he redshirt at Wyoming? I could understand bama, lsu, or tosu., but Wyoming. I can't believe they had that deep a def. end rotation. I even question why out of high school he ended up at Wyoming? just weird all around to me.

Since he only played one year (and in Canada), he was unable to gain interest even though his coaches tried to get schools to look at him. He had no offers come NSD, then Wyoming calls and offers since they had someone decommit at the last minute.

Just think what people thought of Doug Atkins 6'8 275.....in the 50s and 60s!

Guy is an athletic freak. Reminds me of Jevon Kearse at UF.

Guess it has nothing to do with having the top recruiting classes every year but once since 07?

Some people give this man too much credit. He wins with talent. Not scheme

It takes a great coach to make that talent great and maximize skills. Otherwise you just have a great recruiter that never wins.

agreed. If it was all about getting highly ranked classes, Mack Brown should have had about 5 titles with Texas.

without anabolics, one would think that humanly impossible. Im assuming youre kidding, or he's being a teenager. otherwise kids a mutant.

That's imposible even with anabolics. They best biggest arms in bodybuilding are in the 24-26 inch range, and that's the greats Phil Heath, Ronnie Coleman, lee priest type arms.

I dont think 24-26 inch arms are possible naturally. I graduated with a guy who used to be a bodybuilder and he said all of the guys you see with huge arms and bodies are on something. I tend to believe him.
