'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

This board is such hyperbole city. Vereen is not great. Nor is he bad. He is a solid player who has flashes at times. Could he continue to improve? Absolutely. He is a solid SEC starter but nothing to rave about. If he was a senior today he wouldn't get drafted. Love his motor and hoping he blows up.

Also, those touting his end of the season push - besides Alabama it was all scrub teams. Gotta use the whole season.

The point is that we pretty much know what we have in Vereen. A solid SEC player that flashes better at times. Could Kongbo be better, sure, but it's not a given at all.

Also, your last point could be said of our season as well. We will be fine either way

I see kasongo taking snaps away from Phillips and delaying his development.

If that is the case and kangbo ended up being a one and done it's a reasonable argument that we would be better off in 2017 if kasongo doesn't sign with us.

I am sure many here will think it's Just one of my backwards opinions

Edit: add Taylor in that thinking as well

Kasongo is a basketball player. Kongbo is the thread you're in.

I agree that Kongbo has way more upside than Vereen, but I still have trouble seeing Kongbo show up in the summer and overtake Vereen in 3 months. If he had been an EE, sure. But he's going to have a learning curve, freak athlete or not.

"Kongbo - I do think Tennessee is trending in the right direction. Now, with that being said. He's visiting Alabama this weekend and will have another visit left after that. So, we will see what happens."

"Tennessee had a great visit with Kongbo this past week. They still have an in home with Jones left. Now they have to weather the Alabama visit next weekend. They everyone seems to like the Vols chances this week more than last week."

If one looks long enough, one can almost always find something negative about signing a 5* player. However, on this one, you will have to look longer and deeper to accomplish your goal.

Under the circumstances if butch wins this one it might be his finest recruiting victory

Lol. I know it seems silly but it appears to me it's recruiting over Phillips and Taylor.

If those 2 are as good as we keep hearing they need reps badly. I dont see vereen and Lewis giving up their reps

I know he "decommitted", so that would be unusual, but we lose players too next year so he could easily get playing time.

Distance from home
He decommitted
Competition
Our roster
No OV late in the process

All those add up to very steep hill to climb. If butch pulls it off I will have to bring out my tombstone line again about he's down walking on water

I don't believe anyone is saying he can't get playing time if he chooses UT. Its more a discussion if that playing time would be immediate or sparse at first and increase as DEs we already have graduate or go to the draft.

Kongbo's contribution would be felt more in 2017 IMO. I love what we have with Barnett, Vereen, and Phillips. Not real sure I agree with this Vereen talk on here. He was arguably our best DE 2nd half of year. Kid played lights out. Quick, disciplined. Seems like a little star gazing to me but to minimize his impact is selling this kid short.

I don't see him making a visit anywhere on the 29th?

I know he's already visited Washington unofficially but no OV to USCw or UW as of yet.

Anyone know if he's visiting anywhere last weekend in Jan?

I would say Butch told him, he'd have every opportunity to start. but, Barnett is the starter since Kongbo is a SDE. Every opportunity meaning, he will have to outplay the starters. He should be playing a lot when he gets here. we will have a nasty DLINE.

Add Kongbo and Brown and we have the deepest and most talented line in all of CFB

Looks like nothing set yet. Maybe after the bama trip he makes his pick between UT and bama and he doesn't make a trip that last weekend.
