Well we're about what a month away from signing day. They can add some guys, it's still not going to be a great class. You just can't fall behind in this league, it catches up to you at some point.
We still may pull in a good class, but indications, SO FAR, is that we will not, and Please NO Big Fish expectations on NSD. It does not happen very often, especially compared to the rumors & expectations. In other words, I doubt it.
Gee, I guess that's why two classes in a row ranked 15th and 17th really killed Ole Miss.
This class we'll be fine. I imagine we add another stud or two, but miss out on some other big targets as well. But no matter the ranking, we picked up some really, really talented guys at the top of this class. We got a QB with as much talent as any in the 2016 class, a corner who has the potential to be a lockdown Cam Sutton replacement for us, an OT with all the measurables you look for, and the top JUCO DT.
There are a lot of other guys in this class like CFA, Bituli who have all the tools to be great players for us and should have the luxury of redshirting before getting a chance to crack the lineup in 2016. This class is and will be fine. We have a lot of talent on our roster and will through 2017 at least.
Perhaps coaches should have prospects look up the word commitment in the dictionary before allowing them to 'commit'. However, coaches should as well when they 'cut bait' for a higher ranked prospect. Btw, watch Georgia here, they hired the guy that had convinced him to look at UW. Hmmmm
I think we finish strong and everyone who is lamenting the current state of recruiting will have some serious crow to eat 4 weeks from today.
UT's recruiting class has fallen to 9th in the SEC and 26th nationally. But don't worry... its all good. No. In fact, it is GREAT! <sarcasm>
Seriously, some of you need to face problems rather than trying to just hand wave them. Jones has some serious work to do in order to make this a good class. And contrary to to the opinions of some, this is a critical class. Based on who if anyone leaves early this year, the Vols will lose between 12-15 Srs after next season. Hurd is almost certain to leave early along with Barnett. That's somewhere around 12 starters plus some experienced guys who are in the two deep rotation.
Someone has to step up to replace them from the depth chart and then very importantly someone has to step up to replace that guy... and the pool of players to do that will rely heavily on either the '16.... or else Fr from the '17 class.
So in short, if Jones is right about being unable to succeed without experienced depth then this class MUST produce its share of future contributors or else there will be a significant drop off.
Rivals West Coast guy said the USC offer was a game changer.
South Central is my guess as well.
There were some reasons to think UT could hold onto him, and those were some of the main reasons he chose the Vols. Tennessee running backs coach Robert Gillespie has good relationships with a couple of people close to him, so there's some trust there. But his commitment wasn't able to withstand the continued attention he was getting from Alabama, which has made him a higher priority since he committed to Tennessee, along with Washington, Florida State and now USC.

As long as no DE transfers we will be fine at this position

Since the very beginning of this year's class, it has been looked at as a depth class. The reasons being that the instate talent took an uncharacteristic dip, we can't take a full class, and a lot of the higher ranked kids we are going after are wanting to wait till NSD to commit unlike previous years where they would either jump on board and help recruit or be taken off the board.
Now of course, you FF guys will come in here with weeping and gnashing of teeth and try to talk about these "new" and "terrible" revelations, but those of us that closely follow recruiting year round already knew these things. As early as May or June of this year, many posters had already come to the realization that this year's class would be between 15-8 nationally.
It's ok for us to take a non top 5 class every once in a while to be a depth class. This is especially true when we are so well set up for next year's class-- back to top 5.
Solid post. Kongbo still hurts and we must finish strong with Warrior, Brown and Dickerson and a WR but Jones has shown he can do it. This isn't a disaster.... at least not yet.
