'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

Relatability is a reality in recruiting. Rodney Garner can't COACH a lick and will never be out of a job.

What coach, black or white on pretty much any staff in the country, can actually 'relate' to Kongbo's life experiences?

Ok, let me explain this in elementary terms. There ARE indeed some black parents that relate to black coaches better, and if he is the family guy, caring type, that they portray him as then yes, it would be a wise move to send him there in case that helps with the recruiting. Are you saying it would hurt the recruiting?? Your closed minded views limit you to being able to think outside the box, pal. Sending your son from Canada to TN is very stressful for some parents and they get nervous because their baby is going thousands of miles away, so MAYBE she might relate to Scott and feel very comfortable with him being a 'father' figure while he is off at school. Get over it and open your eyes to the really real world. In recruiting you are catering to the parents as well as the kids, if not more. It's a smart move. I'm just thankful that you are not in charge of recruiting.

Lol I can't believe you're still defending this. Fact of the matter is Scott is the newest member of the staff and doesn't even coach the same side of the ball as Kongbo. Why are you so fixated on him alone as a potential father figure for black players when we have other black coaches as well who have been in Knoxville longer and can answer more of his the parents' questions? Why not send Gillespie? He's the recruiting coordinator. Why not send Thig? At least he coaches on the same side of the ball as Kongbo will play. What if the parents want to know all about Knoxville or some academic program at UT? Who do you think will be better suited to answer parents' questions?

Like I said, I'm not debating that diversity is important on a CFB staff. I'm just at a loss as to why you seem so sure that sending Scott, a new coach who likely hasn't even spoken to Kongbo yet, to his in home visit is actually a good idea. Because it sounds like your main argument is "well they're both black."
