Is Barnes too tough on his players?

Do you have actual insight on how he's doing things right now or are you just saying stuff to say it?

There is a lot of declining data showing Barnes is a coach on decline. Being stuck in his "older" ways of coaching very well may be a big reason for that

Consider the source of the article. Sounds like a disgruntled Texas fan who just wanted a coaching change.

Intersting part of that was the article was written before the 2013-2014 season. Barnes ended up overachieving they year as was mentioned in the article

We can ignore the signs all we want but there are there

35-37 in his last 4 years in the big12

And a comleptely embarrassing record against ranked teams in that timeframe

Signs were significant of a decline and that's why he is here

Think about the generation of kids these days. Always playing video games and never getting outside. Getting an allowance for doing nothing. These kids these days are undisciplined and rude. Parents aren't allowed to whip that azz and the kids run the household. You all say Ricks way is wrong or out dated. I disagree. I had my tail whipped. I played outside. And I was raised with tough love. And I'm a good man. These boys need to learn to be accountable and not made to feel like there is no consequences for mistakes. Yes it's just a game. But the rules of life still apply. Listen and honor thy father. Stand together as family and have each other's back. And in the end they will learn to work hard. Never quit. And the results will be there. Let the smart arse responses begin.

He could have the same record here over the next 4 years and not much will be said thanks to lower expectations. It's why UT isn't serious about basketball. Big money for a younger coach who wants to prove something should've been the way to go.

Wouldn't the younger coaches also be members of the same generation of soft individuals?

Looks like Hart had it right when he tried to hire White.

I wanted Tyndall over him but dang was I wrong

I looked at Floridas schedule and they have not beaten anyone that we also wouldn't have been favored to beat.... His recruiting does show promise though

Maybe Barnes isn't too tough. Perhaps the current players are too weak. Lets give him time to get his own brand of player and coach them up for a few years. Personally I'd rather see a bunch of over achieving tough SOBs wearing orange that some overly gifted wimps that are only here until their draft status improves.

Easy easy

This article wasn't written about Barnes at tenn. It was about him at Texas

No reason to think our players are complaining at this

In fact our players seem to genuinely like and enjoy Barnes

Doesn't matter if TN had hired Shaka Smart, Coach K, or the clown at Wichita State... there would be people complaining about the hire.

Usually it takes several years of aging to realize most "tough" coaches are actually good for you...case in point....recently read where Dale Ellis talking about Don DeVoe and how hard he was (and he was HARD!!)...and Dale said after leaving Tennessee DeVoe had him ready for the riggers of NBA life...and he LOVED him for it!!! If I recall and as great as Dale was, and he was, He and DeVoe had some pretty intense moments...I once saw CDD scream at Michael Brooks down at Mississippi State so loud even those in the cheap seats could hear it clearly...and it worked...Vols came back and won...
