Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

That's where we disagree. I think injuries and lack of depth was a helluva lot more than people want to admit.

The coach failed the players in key moments.

The staff didn't put the players in the best position to succeed. You have to be able to count as a paid coach. You have to know when a timeout only helps your opponent. You have to know that a "hurry up"offense needs to have clock milking plays in it. You have to know that one play after a big sack, the qb isn't in any shape to run for a first down and back out of the idiotic qb spy.

You expect teenagers and new blood to make mistakes. Those things happen. You cannot live with the coaches being so "big east" three years into the SEC.

Just my opinion.. I'll concede that injuries hurt the team. But mediocre coaching crippled the team in the biggest games.

This is stupid. Anybody with an IQ above room temperature knows what he means and that he's not actually saying " you have to give me 6-7 years to succeed".

I'm not even totally sold on Butch, but the nuance isn't exactly hard to figure out here.

I agree and possibly Jones was talking about having all players that he has recruited and having a huge senior and junior class of starters. That would take a few years. I think that's all that he meant.

Those two factors certainly affected our team this year. I don't see how anyone can not see that. But I realize there are people who believe that coaches have supernatural powers.

I think I've heard you call into the Paul Finebaum show.

"you need a guy who can manage games abd make sound decisions on Saturdays....which is where Jones has fallen woefully short to date."

I could not disagree with that statement more. There is not one game that we lost because of Jones coaching. The Florida game we lost because the defense couldn't stop 1 4th down conversion. Just one stop and we win. Jones did put our players in winning positions.

And anyone who doesn't think injures had anything to do with that game is crazy.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I had no issue taking a timeout on a 4 and long with a lot of time left in order to get your return correct. No one thought they would go there. It was desperation on UF part and it paid off.

Wut? Huh?

The absolute Saturday coaching malpractice in the Oklahoma and Florida games has been well documented on this board and in the national media.

Some people give the Alabama game a pass. In truth, Butch again made the critical mistaken decision in allowing Medley to attempt several 40+ field goals. One didn't need "analytics" to know Medley was under 33% at 40+ in his career to that point. The terribleness of this decision is magnified by the fact that Medley had TWO chances at the first field goal and neither were even close.

Everything Butch did AFTER the Bama game concerning Medley was perfect. But after the two bad misses, he should not have attempted another 40+ FG in that game, and he did it several times. All misses.

So, even in the game most people give Butch a pass, it was the big decisions by the head football coach which ultimately cost Team 119 that game.

I'm over the disappointment of the season. I think Butch had an epic season to complete his OJT in the SEC.

There are no excuses worthy in 2016 though. We will be at worst a pick'em with Florida to win the East, and we have the schedule in our favor. Time to win or GTFO.

It was coaching to just be in that game on the road. You can always find a decision or two after the fact in a close game. More than anything though, the other team was just better in that one.

Are you crazy! You mean to tell everyone that coaches make decisions that work and some that don't and in a close game it's possible to cherry pick some out? Inconceivable.

It's because you've never said what "building a program" actually means. But under any definition, the idea that it takes 6 or 7 years for a coach that's actually going to win something is ludicrous.

Actually, going back to 1990, and averaging the time it took each national championship winning coach in that period to win his first national championship (counting from the time he was hired at the school where he won the championship), the answer is 6 years on the dot.

Usually a program is "built" before they win a national championship. If a built program means winning national championships then there are a lot of programs that will never be built.
