So he made a mistake and thought he had one more year, but when he discovered he was wrong he should keep dragging the team down just for pride's sake?

And team allegiance has literally 0 to do with whether someone's actions are acceptable or not.

And yes, you do have to experience that level of elite discipline to have an informed opinion on whether someone should walk away immediately or not. If Butch's body and mind were preventing my team from being successful, I'd prefer he step down immediately.

Well said.

Not going to disagree if you don't like or agree with his decision, but still not a moral issue. Snorting coke in coaches office, yep, moral issue.

That said, is it right for a leader to continue to lead, when they know they don't have what it takes, therefore taking everyone down with them. Some would say that's wrong.

Yes I expect a leader to continue to suck it up and lead until the season is over and then move on.

The same way I expect a kid to keep Practicing, being a good teammate, and working hard even if they know their career is over for whatever reason. Quitting shouldn't be an option for a player

That's why athletics are sooo important in this world. It teaches all involved that team is greater than individual.

Possibly he is referring to the "immediate need" part?

This. Say you have limited depth and a 3 to play 3 Juco that is raw is available. Maybe you don't have to have him that first year but he's insurance for an injury plus you can get years out of him. The Sutton situation would serve as example. If he comes back no one gets his minutes. If he doesn't wouldn't be horrible to have a guy with one year of Juco.

You put too much into a game of competition. Explains the JOY in your posts. :)

Why not take a HS guy in that case?

Ehh, I don't necessarily agree. It's not black and white, it's situationally based, but in a case like Spurrier, I don't have a problem. He didn't have it and he knew he was dragging everyone down. That's a lot of responsibility not only to the kids and coaches, but the school.

He didn't even think that he had one more year. He wanted to retire after last year, but the admin. begged him to come back. Then after they struggled at the beginning of the year, the same people who begged him to come back were criticizing him. He got pissed and decided to retire. Anyone who thinks he is just a quitter is an idiot.

Well his leaving didn't do them any good.

1-5 once he left

Juco guys that we've had that needed a redshirt:

Woody Quinn
Riyahd Jones
Dontavius Blair

Guys that need a redshirt out of juco don't work

It was in reference to the CB

Oh? My bad. :hi: Then just substitute CB for DT and leave the rest. :). Which high school CB did we pass on to give this guy an offer. If you find a good PLAYER? Take him. :yess:
