I don't think ithey could do much better than Chaney.

Who's available?
Who wants to start fresh in sec with a new head coach?

A lot to take into consideration.
Chaney's offense puts up numbers, the head coach will have to make him play winning football as well

Yeah I don't get why UGA fans are so mad about this. Chaney with a defense his final yr at TN wins 10plus games. He has his mental lapses but every OC does. He isn't anything to be afraid of but it's definitely a solid hire that can win games. It's not a laughing hire like Chanp hiring Roper agains

It's surprising how much they hate the hire. They would have had a nuclear meltdown if Smart hired someone like DeBord, but he has worked out pretty well for us.

I'll put it like this:

Chaney is a solid hire for Smart and they should balance each other well.

They're still gonna catch hands when they come aiming for them VOLS

Personally I liked him. But go back and read Volnation posts from c. 2012. Even when we were fielding one of the most prolific offenses in program history there were unending posts complaining about Cheney and his offense, claiming he was holding us back and blowing games.

Fans are generally irrational and often don't know they have a good thing when they have it. I think that's the answer to your question.

Roper is a bad hire. Chaney is a good hire as well as Pittman who is a great hire. Georgia will be a team who is good but UT can and I expect be better. Chaney and Pitt are not great recruiters but I did not expect Smart to try and make bad hires for his staff. But, we do not have to worry about our program. We have a great foundation and good recruiters and we will be kicking that dawg regardless of who Smart hires. Rest assured that UT is in good hands and can get even better. Hiring those two guys will not change the Georgia agenda of winning NC's except for about once every 50 years. On the other hand, they are headed toward that 50 year mark.

Pittman is a good recruiter. Chaney's offensive stats are a good recruiting tool.

I don't know if Chaney will work out or not, I do know if Kirby can get equal production out of their D that Pruitt did, and Chaney can build an offense that puts up points like he did here, they will be very good. Scared? Hell no Butch is gona build a Defense that will allow us to win any game against anybody. But Georgia did good. Eason should seriously take a hard look. Look at Brees and even Brays numbers at UT.

The ACC seemed to do great with head coaching hires while the SEC's hires were underwhelming.

One angle I've not heard yet on this is whether coaching candidates are steering clear of the SEC in light of the unreasonable fan expectations and the treatment of Les Miles and Mark Richt, despite their .740+ winning percentages.

Will be interesting to see how that plays out over time and whether that will bring even more parity between the ACC and SEC over time (the SEC East and the ACC already are on par with one another).

Although UGA could have done slightly better, they also could have done a lot worse.

Really good combo hire.

Pittman alone makes any combo a good hire. Probably best OL coach in college. And elite recruiter. Sucks big time for us. Chaney is decent, but Pittman is going to hurt us for many years.

Uga will live or die based on whether smart is the guy or jot

Nothing else

Sabans had a dozen oc's through the years. Never matters.

I think butch will be the same way. He will recruit so well and be such a good motivator that we will win over the next decade regardless of who the coordinators are

Chaney+Pitt is a very very good combo for uga. Let's see if we are able to hire a decent WR coach

We need more bald guys on staff IMO.

Z had a helluva widow's peak going on but wasn't bald and Mark "I'm not follicularly challenged" Elder's departure opens up a prime spot for a new chrome dome to rock the Big Orange on the sidelines.

DeBord was an excellent hire to replace fellow bald man Mike Bajakian, but losing Willie Martinez could hurt us from a male pattern baldness perspective.

Yeah? I donated money to his sick daughter that I never met. Then, the first time I say something addressed specifically to him I wish her well. I'm sorry you couldn't get that I was being cordial before I expressed that it's getting really old reading his Bruin bashing. It's not just him, but his post happened to finally break me. Enjoy the winter, heard it's nice where you live.

Not trying to be confrontational, but you know very well you could do both of those things without combining them into one post.

Chaney is an excellent coach and football mind. He just needs to be reigned in by the head coach during the game. Sort of like Mike Martz and Dick Vermeil when the Rams won the Super Bowl.

This.

Some on here don't believe anybody can improve with experience, yet, love to point out Butch/Debord/Mahoney are improving with experience.

It's not about being scared of UGA because of Chaney and Pittman. It's about respecting a rival HC/school's intelligent choice for OC and O-line coach, especially since they excelled at UT previously. Their hiring does not help UT. It may be neutral or it may hurt, but it will not help us.

CockyTalk is quickly approaching "Cult of Muschamp" status. They are convinced he's going to take the SEC by storm due to the fact that he's actually recruiting and doing his job. Something Spurrier failed to do for the past 2-3 years, apparently.

I actually feel kind of bad for SC fans. They'll probably never be as good as they were under Spurrier but the fact that they were for a few years gave them hope that they can be...It's kind of sad.

Lol. He was a complete failure at UF. 'Nuff said.
