I think we easily win this game by 14 points. Our offense is too fast paced for any big 10 team. I think dobbs will give them fits as well. Hurd will pound them until they're crying. And butch will slap them until they forfeit.
Plenty of "good seats" left in the end zone, bwhahahahaha.
Go Mildcats!
This will be a repeat of last years Bowl game against Iowa. Glad to get the extra 15 practices so some of the EEs can be rocking come the Spring Game.
Can't really argue with #1 based on many posters on here.
1. Most UT fans did not attend the university. An amazing number have never even been there. But they consider themselves rabid diehard fans. Until the team loses two games in a row. Then they turn on the coaches, the school, the team, and the individual players. Take the worst of the posters on this board, make it worse by a factor of 10, and then multiply by thousands of fans.
Been trying to find Northwestern message boards but it looks like they aren't into it like we are. But here's what I found. Northwestern really wanted to play Florida. They saw them as much better match up because of Florida's lack of QB play.
First Northwestern is 114th in total offense and 11th in total defense. Imagine Mizzou but slower.
"For those who don't know, Northwestern is 10-2 and beat Stanford. Love the exposure of New Year's, hate the matchup"
Your Picks or Vegas Picks?
"No way NU is a toss-up against TN on a neutral field, might be as wide as -8 or more for TN. Im terrified of a TN game."
They fear Dobbs:
"I would rank UT over Ole Miss as the most difficult matchup. the UT QB Dobbs is an excellent runner and a decent passer. That type of QB usually gives NU problems. UT gagged away 2 games where they looked like the better team (Ok and Fla)."
TN is Nightmare Scenario
"Playing Tennessee would be a very unlucky matchup for us. Very talented team on a roll but with the 8-4 record nothing to gain by beating them. If we win, well, we just beat an 8-4 team, so what. If we lose, it fuels the "typical Big Ten" casual college football fan narrative."
Most think if they keep it a low scoring game and get Dobbs to turn the ball over they will be able to win
"That Tennessee offense ranking isnt all that awesome, so playing them may not be that bad. Keep it a low-scoring game and let turnovers or special teams decide the game NU 20 Tennessee 17."
I guess I'm the only one out there that thinks this won't be a walk in the park like the rest of you. Northwestern is not a bad team, obviously. They have a very good defense and they can run the ball very well.
That being said, they don't throw the ball particularly well. That works in our favor as our secondary has been the soft spot on our team all year; our front 7 are our strength and as long as we're healthy and Butch gets them motivated, we should be able to keep them from running for ~150 yards.
Northwestern hasn't seen an offense like ours all season, which is another good thing. With the Hurd/Kamara/Dobbs combo, I truly think our offense is one of the most unique units in college football. As long as Dobbs continues to take care of the football and as long as our team continues to prevent themselves from making stupid mistakes, I think we have a great shot to beat a 10-2, #12 ranked team and finish with a 9-4 record. Give that to our team to mull over in the offseason and let them really think about how close we were to being a 1 loss team and that'll do wonders as far as momentum goes going into next season.
Now, back to the original topic. I like these threads because I like to know how other teams perceive us, and I actually usually end up going over to the other teams' boards and reading through what they're saying. The NU fans seem to be split: some of them think they're going to lose because our offense is good and others think their defense is going to win them this game. One thing is for certain though....I don't like the majority of their fans. One of them says he's from Nashville and does nothing but bash Vols fans, saying "most of them didn't go there or have never even been there". To me that just shows their ignorance. I graduated from UTK, but grew up a huge UT fan and have gone to games with my family since I was 7 years old. So what he's saying is basically that I had no right to be a fan when I was 7-18 years old because I never went there, and that other people don't have the rights to be fans since they didn't attend school there. Just makes me mad for some reason.
So yeah, I do hope we beat the horse dump out of them. Just from what I've seen, they're right up there with Clemson as the shi****** college football fans.
THAT BEING SAID, please stop going over there and making the rest of us look bad. I can only cringe and shake my head when I see a fellow vol fan go over there and gloat about how good we are or how "badly they're gonna get railed". Just stop. There's a difference between good banter and artificial ignorance; please don't choose the latter.
I've been to a game at Northwestern. Yes, the stadium is significantly smaller than UT's, but pretty much in line with other, smaller private school stadiums.
Texas high school stadiums would give it a run for its money, but they can be ridiculous anyhow.

On that part, the guy is totally dismissing the enormous, widespread imact a major program like UT football has on the community, both from an economic and a community pride standpoint. Next best thing to a pro team, better in some respects. It helps that local media relentlessly pounds it into our culture.
Disclaimer: I attended, sort of, but am a UTK dropout. I also once marched on Shields-Watkins field with high school band. (I did not play flute, but my girlfriend and now wife did and Brian Williams was leading the band as drum major, or so he claims.)
So basically, we should think of them just like Vandy fans except there are more of them.lol:
Isn't Nortwestern the school who stole the checkerboard end zones from UT?
