Butch Jones may not know many things but he does know talent. Before the Bowling Green game, he said they were an explosive offense with an NFL QB. I took it as coach speak and thought we would handle them easily. We now know Bowling Green is a good football team. Similarly, Butch said Oklahoma is underrated and a top 5 football team. If that turns out to be true, then we just had a playoff team on the ropes.

This team can still be great. Folks need to let the season play itself out before making declarations this early in the season. Bringing negativity to this football team this early in the season is wrong.

Tennessee fans need to grow up.

Lotta folks made fool's outta themselves freaking out about losing to a playoff team in double ot.

The way we lost that game was still inexcusable, no use in denying that. But the loss itself doesn't look half bad.

I think the big difference with us is I see Oklahoma as one of the best teams in the country and view our performance in that spectrum. You look at them as a decent but not elite team.

If what happened Sunday happened against Baylor or TCU, would you take the moral victory?

Of all the things Butch has said, no one thought he "gets it" after that statement LOL.

Sounds like we need to holler at Butch next Sept when people are wondering who is the preseason top 4.

You're right...the refs missing the awful false start call on Oklahoma's game tying play was inexcusable. How dare the team not have a scheme to prevent that.

It is interesting to look back at all this.

So Butch said, "BGSU explosive, NFL QB," and he was right.

So Butch said, "OK top 5," and he was right.

The dude clearly knows NFL and championship level talent when he sees it.

So Butch said, "We're building something special here," and "We're gonna win championships." ... Woot! Someone strap Wylo down, he's not gonna like this one! :)

If your gonna make a bet you should ask 99 gator first. He predicted Oklahoma had no chance at the playoff and he made a comparison between Driskel and Mayfield. Good call.

Yeah that's one of the things that has impressed me the most about Butch. His eye for talent is pretty good. He said Matt Johnson was an NFL QB and Bowling Green was an explosive offense. And that turned out to be true. He said Oklahoma was a top 5 team and that turned out to be true. He said Florida's defense this year was as good as any we've faced since he took over at UT and that turned out to be true.

Butch has his faults. Evaluating talent isn't one of them. This might be why we've done so well in recruiting. Most of our highly regarded recruits live up to their rankings. While other schools have 5 stars bust frequently.

He also said we're one of the best teams in the country after our last game. And I think he's right once again.

Championships are coming back to Rocky top.......soon.

You say all that about evaluating talent, but this year playing Colton Jumper...and then sticking with him for some number of games may have literally lost us two football games

And then I believe chance Hall and Jack Jones were upgrades on the offensive line, but it took injury to see them.

Last year the Worley injury saved our season.

So I'm not so sure.

Jumper missed important FGs in games vs Oklahoma and Florida? Odd. I thought that was someone else.

I'm assuming you missed that post like 3 above yours with the definition of confirmation bias

Anyway, so yeah...missed field goals...that was literally the only thing that happened in those games that led to us losing...only single thing. Not a myriad of different things at all

I can say this though, if I did convince myself of that, it sure would make me feel better about those losses. Unfortunately I'm smarter than that so...brain won't let me

I clearly took the OK horror show better than I remember. It's the bold above that still have question marks around the staff.

I think Butch has put together a helluva team, and I said so in the off-season. There were epic Saturday coaching failures in all of the losses - including Alabama.

I saw some of the cobwebs of OJT start to disappear. Really want a big bowl game against Harbaugh to confirm.
