@FootballScoop: At Tennessee, sources tell FootballScoop the administration is working on an extension (w raise) for Butch Jones https://t.co/sNnVtycOD5
While everyone emphasized the fact that we led in all our losses, each of those four was a very different story. The Oklahoma game was squandering a big lead against a better team because of a conservative game plan. The UF game was squandering a big lead against an inferior team because of an inability to make crucial stops. The Arkansas game was just getting outplayed by a more physical group. The Alabama game was holding a much better team in check with an opportunity to win it late, but talent ultimately winning out.
It's worth noting that we didn't allow any big time comebacks after UF. Yes, we had a 14-0 lead on Arky, but that was early and after EB doing what EB does on a kickoff. Alabama was a one point lead. We almost screwed up the South Carolina game, but unlike against UF and OU, we found a way to get it done when things seemed to be turning against us. That, to me, is a sign that the staff learned lessons from those early two fourth quarter meltdowns.
And, really, the UF game was very different in my mind from OU. We played conservative as we could the second half against the Sooners. I felt like the game plan against Florida was considerably more aggressive; we just failed to make a stop when we had to. You can quibble with a call here, a call there in the Florida game, but it was a different story than with Oklahoma. That, again, points to growth and adaptation.
Was just thinking how important Von Pearson was to us this year.
We almost didn't have him due to the rape allegations. And that would have left us without our top 4 receivers this year. He's been clutch.
I guess if Hart is confident that Butch is going to take that next step next year, why wait, but I would have liked to see Butch earn that next pay raise with a championship.
I can see going ahead and paying him now and not allowing any ill will to begin to form as I think he is what they 12th highest paid coach in the SEC?
OV says coach Z is not going anywhere. I think he's the one that needs to go somewhere else the most. I suspect Butch's comments after the Vandy game about Coach Z helping punt returns has something to do with him setting up Coach Z staying
Hmm. The only thing I can think of is that Butch is confident we can win games without needing home-run threats at WR, and that Z brings enough to the table in other areas that him being somewhat of a liability for his position group is worth the trade-off.
That's the way he always thinks with his coaches. He is loyal to a fault, IMO. Maybe he knows more about what Z dealt with than the rest of the world. Only explanation that I can think of at the moment.
