Whatever...I'm already over this. If Butch does leave for a job that's less pressure, then bye bye! And if, big if, he does, then he goes against everything he's been preaching to these young men about resiliency, mental toughness, etc, etc.
I still don't think he leaves...I agree with volatil. This is all being said and done by Butch's agent to get an extension, more money, field turf, or a combination of all of them.
Actually, I was joking. But I am with you. Call his bluff. I would think lots of good coaches would be itching to work with the talent that is at UT now.
With a large fan base, you are going to have a spectrum of fans. When things are going badly, it pushes the spectrum toward the negative. When that happens, the most negative on that spectrum--mixed with the right amount of stupidity--will do really, really dumb (and often illegal) things. People get threatened and assaulted, trees get killed, etc.
Now this group I'm referring to is very, very small, but it doesn't take many to realize that some take this game more than a little too seriously in a bad way. These types sour the game for everyone, but I can especially see it souring things for coaches, players, administrators and the families of those groups.
I would like to think no one on VN would be so stupid, but it wouldn't surprise me if a very, very few did. One thing that bothers me is the way some people show their disapproval. Being critical is fine, but being a jerk (or worse) only reflects upon yourself and, sadly, those around you. Be mindful of how you display your emotion (probably preaching to the choir in this thread).
Sorry for the mini-rant.
This is all true, but if you coach any team with a large fan base, then it's gonna be the same thing different place. You'd be running forever. Even Bama with all their winning has the Harvey Updykes.

@JimmyHyams: It is the largest outdoor, center-hung screen display in the world. Equal to about 1,145 50-inch TVs. It will be used at April race at BMS
