In the past 30 years we would be 2nd or 3rd but living on the glory of the 90s is over. It clouds our self perception here. That's all I am saying. Hopefully we are heading back to that spot we aren't there now

Mississippi State, South Carolina and Missouri are better jobs than UT in your book I guess.

Take out the 30 years part and address the rest of my post and you'll see where we differ.

No.

Wins and losses don't trump the huge advantage we have in recruiting, facilities/$, and fanbase. Same with ole miss

Those other programs that are ahead of us have more wins in the last 10 years and another big piece of the puzzle.

A&M facilities are a wash but their recruiting territory is off the charts.

We have better facilities than auburn with them having a slight edge is recruiting territory but their on the field success has been sooooo much more better than ours they have to be ahead of us at the moment .

You can't really rank something without a defined set of criteria. It's subjective speculation on top of personal bias mixed with unobjective reasoning.

But it's college football so it's allowed (see Heisman Trophy and SEC Officiating).

Auburn has proven a national title is possible there and also getting back to the game very quickly. They win with that consideration

A&M hasn't done that but with Texas to recruit to yes it's very obtainable there as well

North Texas has a great recruiting base too. Does that mean they are a better job than UT?

If that's the best you can do why respond?

A&M is a recruiting gold mine with much more $ than we have to support the program. They have won more than we have over recent years. They have a slight edge over us in where the programs are but it's debatable and it's fine to agree to disagree.

2 Questions Bruin:

Can an SEC title be won at this program?
Can a National title be won at this program?

Tier 1: YES, YES
Tier 2: YES, YES
Tier 3: MAYBE, NO
Tier 4: NO, NO (but can win a division in a down year)
Tier 5: NO, NO

Couple of side notes:
Texas A&M is probably close to tier two but we will see how that goes long term. Right now, they are benefiting from the move to the SEC and Texas being down. I also think the program and their coach are overhyped. Let's see how good they are without a once in a lifetime player at QB.

Dan Mullen has done an unbelievable job at Miss State.

Spurrier and Pinkel deserve a ton of credit for what they did at USC and Missouri. Even though both benefited some from Florida, UT and Georgia having some rough years thrown in there.

Not exactly what you are saying here but yes IMO the top 7 of

Bama
Lsu
Florida
Georgia
Auburn
A&M
Tenn

All 7 have a realistic shot at winning a national title

Ole miss
Miss state
Ark
USCe

All 4 have a long shot to win a natty

Kentucky
Vandy
Mizzu

All 3 have the same odds I have at winning the lottery and I haven't bought a ticket yet

This is one of the only threads I keep up with on VN and it has been ruined, again. Everyone talks about how annoying he is yet people keep quoting and responding to him. It's simple, completely ignore his posts and no one will have to put up with his mindless drivel.

For those posters with less football knowledge

Offsides is 99.999% times a defensive penalty. It's been a long long long time since I have seen an offensive player called for off sides.

Illegal procedure, false start, illegal formation, and illegal motion are offensive penalties
What if they're lined up off sides?

Tennessee has the largest recruiting budget in the nation.

Anybody ever say why Jennings didn't play in the Missouri game? They need some bodies at WR. Crazy how that unit has been banged up and turned around all year.

Is an offsides penalty is against the offense or defense?

Technically the foul of offsides is neutral: being on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. It is just much more difficult for the offense to commit the penalty because they have the added element of having to be set first, creating the added opportunity for false starts. If an offensive player lines up on the wrong side of the line scrimmage and the ball is snapped, its offsides.

Argument settled. What was so hard about that? lol
